Politically charged towards to the left
Likes giving mate little romantic suprises
Computer Programmer and Artist by trade but also very musical...very talented in many different areas
Risk taker - skydiving, race car driver, snowboarder
    Self-employed

ISFp as "slow to open up"? Not sure --

    My guess is ISTp.

it took me months to get richard to open up....and he finally did only after I made the what-the-heck leap (his response was immediately after that). When he met my family, it took him a few meets before he relaxed. When he makes a joke or even says anything to them it's like mana to my ears. Even now, it's difficult to get him to talk about his interests and such, though after two years he finally mentions them a few times a week, and stories about his past are mentioned about once every 3 months or so.

(admittedly, though, he's a shy SiFe, so that may have something to do with it.)

Now, is the question really "what's his type?" or is it "should i consider dating him or not?"
    Maybe

Right now just friends though. Relationship wise we seem to have a lot in common and both seem to run into the same problems looking for one. We both feel we are pressured too fast by people who like us and it scares us away from them permanently.

He's an academic achiever but that doesn't mean a whole lot. He loves to help people.

We both find the majority of people unaware and superficial. He's more gentle on them about it than I am though but neither of us respect these types.

He has a love for travel and adventure

He loves animals and the environment

He keeps his internal group of friends very small

That's how I've always felt, too. The best way to ensure you'll never date me is to hit on me. For a while I even decided that I hated being hit on so much that I would, as a matter of principle, initiate all new relationships on my own time and terms. I'm sure you can imagine... I didn't start any healthy relationships with that strategy.

This guy definitely sounds ISTp to me. He appears to value Fi over Fe, and his attitudes seem consistant with descriptions of ISTps and an ISTp that I know well.

    Semi-duality... yay!!!

ISTp, yeah. Maybe ISFp, but I doubt it. INTj came to mind too, but nah, I don't think so...

Hmm something he said now is kind of striking me.

He says he likes to give up leadership at home to his mate. I was thinking...argh...I do too. So much about day to day crap I just don't care about and if given the opportunity, would love it if my mate took control.

I know ISFps defer to their mate a lot, what about ISTPs?

It depends on what he means by "leadership at home". Cooking and cleaning - my husband defers so long as he has some ability to oversee. Money, finances, NO WAY would he give up control. Especially to me. I'm bad with money.

If you asked him, he'd probably say he wants to give leadership at home to his mate. But that would be code for "I don't want to do any housework."

I said Fi over Fe (no exclamation marks, thanks) because it sounds like she's describing someone Serious (as opposed to Merry). Would you like to explain how what I think is Fi is Aristocracy? I'm quite certain that I don't generally mistake Betas for Fi types.

I just wanted to reiterate this... I didn't say that he appears to prefer Fi over Fe because he's looking for a serious relationship. The overall feel of the description seemed Serious (check out the sticky thread about typing framework).

Then I misunderstood what Slacker Mom meant with "opening up" -- if it is about seriously discussing deeper feelings, I agree. I was thinking of "being accessible", "friendly", "approachable" etc.

I agree with Joy about the Serious thingy.

    He's an MBTI INTJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

INTJ was actually my first vibe but so many other things were throwing me off. He's more eloquent than many INTJ's I know.

I know INTJ's can be really artistic but he kind of blew me away. It tickles me giddy to think about his diversity and how he pretty much excels at everything he does. The fact he loves to cook kind of threw me off too.

I found out for sure last night. He had mentioned MS had tested him when he worked there. They use personality tests to determine if you are a right fit for the jobs. He remembered being around 2% of the population.

He looked up his results and sure enough, INTJ. I had him redo a test and he came out INTJ. Now that I know, it definatley all fits. It's just with a 184 IQ pretty much everything for him is a cake walk. He's suprisingly well adjusted for someone with that high of an IQ.

    PS. We started dating

I think true intellegence has to deal with how you go about your life..... people who go trhough life tremendously "smart" but constantly depressed and angry or whatever -- -I don't think that's much intellegence. That's missing the big picture here....

So yeah, if that's the case, your INTJ sounds like a very smart guy, in the 'life' sense. He might very well be a keeper, as he seems to have learned how to balance out himself and excell. Keep us updated, and good luck.
Posts I wrote in the past contain less nuance.

I think most people with an IQ of 184 will test as INTJ, particularly in MBTI, and if not INTJ, an NT type in the very least. Typing extremely intelligent people is difficult, and tests really won't work. Even looking at type descriptions can be deceptive. It seems that 99% of intelligent people are typed as NTs, even though only a quarter of them should be. I'd take a closer look at functions if you want to find out what his type is for sure... he may be INTj (doesn't really sound like it though), but he may be ISTp or ISFp or INTp or another type. Honestly, it sounds like ISTp to me... but I don't actually know him, so who knows. Have you had him read ISTp or ISFp or any other socionics type descriptions?

I agree, that guy sounds like a sensor to me, totally. I also think that introversion or extraversion should be pretty obvious to you by his overall demeanour.

Hard to say. I tend to move along at a pretty good clip and he can definately keep up. I'll do topic changes more them him though. I find him very interesting to listen to. He doesn't stall in one area ever long enough for me to get bored and my mind to wonder.

I think that's more a sign of Life Intelligence , rather than personality or psychological type.

Hmm not totally sure, still learning. I know he likes Robin Williams. He designs computer gaming software so I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say that blood and guts don't bother him.

Our conversations are more an exchange of knowledge and ideas than the witty banter I have with an INFJ. I felt guilty a lot or like I was doing things wrong when when I dated an INFJ though (supervisor). I don't feel that here. I feel very relaxed and comfortable.

    INTj.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

    Dislikes:

    Stupid People
    Superficial People
    Gold Diggers
    Irrational people
People overworking him (happens a lot because he likes to help and doesn't know how to say no)
Going on adventures by himself (can initiate them if he has a willing partner)
    Stupid Rules
    Not big on drinking
    Dishonesty
He keeps his social group small like me
Shys away from people who don't appreciate him or trying to get him to do stuff for them because they are too lazy to do it for themselves. (then he will say no)

He realizes he takes way too much on his plate and has to work very hard to get it all done (he does complete the tasks though). He has trouble seeing this situation develop and its not until he's in the midst of it, he realizes its happened.

He hates typing words. He doesn't mind typing programming languages at all though. He wishes he could have something installed in his head to make doing anything on the computer much more efficient.

I don't see how this guy can be anything but INTJ. The efficiency remark seals the deal.

This guy can be any type from what has been said until now. All the qualities listed pertain to people that know how to live life.

I can see how you might see that from an ESTP perspective actually. My ESTP roomate could probably identify with a lot on that list hmmm try to qualify.

His dislikes can actually isolate him. Misunderstood by the great majority of society but accepts it and with a certain level of detachment and maybe even a tinge of pride because he knows he's isolated in many ways because of a certain edge he has.

Now he hasn't said that, but its kind of what I pick up from him. He's actually quite modest but I sense a hint of this.

The efficiency (ESPECIALLY installing a device in your head to be more efficient) is not something actually a lot of people think. The idea of installing something in your head like this would seem to many like they were sacrificing part of their humanity.

The 3 male INTJs I know just so happen to be in computer related fields (all of them Computer Programmers of some sort). They are the only people I ever hear these particular comments from.

I love computers too, but don't want to download my brain to one nor do I find that an appealing thought. Maybe at the moment of death or something but not while I can experience in the outerworld still.

I'm not sure how my female INTJ friend would feel about this. She's in more of an administrative type field and teaches. She seems far more outgoing than the INTJ males I know. She's so different from them that I sometimes question her INTJness.
