If there was a one a day pill to give you all your nutrients, and you did not feel hunger, would you give up food?

Do you mean forever? are u kidding me. big no.

but hey, the funny thing is that sometimes go on intermittent fasting and I noticed the following mechanism: when I'm in 'free food for thought' mode, I can get extremely hungry or I simply have huge appetite for many things I happen to see or think of (if they're not super expensive, I usually grab them). In 'fasting' mode, only in day 1 do you (me) feel some slight sensation of hunger. after day 2 that's sort of forgotten. Dunno how to explain psychologically (cause it seems to be rather physiologic...). But I read on the webs it worked in a similar way for others.

So the answer is yeah, I would, for a few days - if there's a benefit to it.

Temporarily at times, depending on convenience and cost. But overall, no.

Actually, that sort of thing exists. But it's a drink, not a pill. And my LII brother does go days without real food because of convenience.

It would depend on how well researched and created the pill was.
One of the problems though is that hunger serves added purposes of pushing us to interact with our environment. It's what led mankind to learn to hunt, learn to make and refine tools, even learn to communicate. Hunger also helps bring a single minded narrowness, enhancing our sense of awareness of details in our environment, etc.

Also, the pill would need to consider the needs of our gut and the bacteria we need in our gut. We're not so much feeding ourselves....but feeding them, and then using what they produce from our foods.

I eat fast and usually do other things while eating. I take small portions so to others it may seem that I ate faster than I really did. I don't like sitting down to eat with others very much, unless it is a holiday. Even then I am usually thinking about the things I am going to be doing as soon as the dinner is over. If I have to hear, "You don't enjoy your food" or "Sit down and eat". one more time I am going to scream. Not really but I think I made my point. It bothers me when people tell me I am not eating the right foods or eating the right way. It is none of their business how I eat. I am not a slob and I have excellent table manners. Not sure if I learned this behavior from my mother. She worked like 16 hour days to support us and she usually had to eat fast and get back to work. My mother is a very good cook but does not always eat her own cooking. She likes to make food for others and likes the compliments on her cooking.

On the other side of it, I was also raised by an aunt (by marriage, think Nurse Ratched personality) that I considered a "glutton" even before I knew the meaning of the word. She seemed to alway be eating and her side of the family really seem to enjoy it. I think she helped shape my aversion to food because she was very controlling of what we ate, while not having any self control herself when it came to food.

When I got to restaurants I never know what to order so I end up choosing the same things over and over. I will be adventurous when going someplace new. Especially if it is foreign cuisine.I will eat Squid. I think I like the texture more than the taste though.

I enjoy it with the right people but it is the atmosphere I am enjoying more than the food. Plus I used to drink alcohol to get through it. I order out more now than I used to. I just don't want the hassle of going to the restaurant and stuck there wanting to be somewhere else. I would rather hang out with my friends watching movies, listening to music, playing games and yeah sometimes drinking, but I don't do that very often.

I don't cook except for thanksgiving. I am not sure why but I like to take control of that dinner and people let me because they are shocked I want to do it. People do like the taste of my food when I choose to cook but in general it is a lot of work to make things taste good. More work than I want to put into it.

In relationships I would probably have starved if they had not fed me. I went for long periods of time eating TV dinners and take out when neither of us liked to cook and we liked it that way. Didn't feel like we were missing out on something. Fortunately I didn't get into relationships with people who expected a good cook and I don't expect it from them either. hahah Sometimes when I feel very appreciative of someone I will go all out and cook something special that they like. It is kind of my way of showing some gratitude.

Don't get my wrong. I like the taste of certain foods, in the moment. I think I am enjoying it but it is not important to me. Like @Starfall I think it is a chore. I have enough memories of the foods I like and what they taste like to sustain me. I am tired of being asked what I want for dinner and not knowing. Then getting into conversations about it when none of us know what we want to eat. It's like, "you choose" vs "no you choose" and nobody makes up their mind so we end up with pizza or chinese food.

I would take the pill and not look back.

Well, that was a rant. I feel better now.

No. Even if it was cheaper, it would be an economic disaster. Not only for the sake of the pleasure and social enjoyment of good food, my social consciousness wouldn't allow me to do it. I'd possibly go as far as becoming a vegetarian, but that would be it.

    Maybe.

Advantages would be saving time and money spent on buying, cooking, and eating food. Also, I'm assuming the pill would be just the right amount of daily calories so you wouldn't have to worry about weight gain. It would make weight maintenance easier.

However, I enjoy my food. The tastes and the textures. No question I would miss that. It's one of the great simple pleasures of life. Even to the detriment of my health sometimes.

I don't see why you'd want to get it flavored anyway. You'd get tired of the same flavor every time I'd think. Just add your own custom flavoring each time.

100% Yes. But pretty sure other people would riot in the streets, all some people talk about is food, all some people DO revolves around food. But there's nothing wrong with that - i just don't understand it

Oh, so just a pill that'll make you not hungry for a day? May not be much difference from how I am now, I sometimes only eat like one thing a day (like yesterday) but I guess I'll have more energy. Answer: Hell yeah, if it's just day by day, who wouldn't choose that at least a few times? There should be ones that go for like a few days or a week or so though, like senzu beans.

EDIT: Oh, my bad, misread. No, I wouldn't give up food totally just because of a pill. There would probably be special occasions for food but I may use them a lot since I don't really eat much. It could be good for my life now but there can obviously be more to eating than just eating in itself like @anndelise mentioned.

As far as my relation to food goes, I also eat really fast, almost like I put it off for so long that when I'm actually hungry I just want to get it over with or can't control myself. I may be finished with my meal before we even pull out of the fast food place we went through the drive thru for.

Pisses off my ESE mom, she tells me that I'm not enjoying the food that way. I don't even know what I like sometimes and at times hate eating. I may walk into a gas station, look around and search for something but then end up with what I usually get or know. I work at Walmart yet never know what to eat for lunch usually and just opt out of eating during lunch because of it sometimes. Ate a pizza last week though, didn't finish it, but only because I figured I should, not because I wanted to. I always eat poptarts for my 15 minute break though, which people get on me about it because they can't believe how I don't get tired of it or the amount I'll eat (8 poptarts a workday). Whatever you sort of put off doesn't go away though, sometimes comes back in full force. Like I once got my paycheck, bought food from walmart, went to dennys and went to dunkin donuts in the morning before going home for work, lol and ate all my food, lol.

I can't believe people would. Honestly food is one of the few things that brings me genuine, deep happiness. It is all i think about. Actually I would go so far as to say I have a slight addiction. Taking a pill would make life so dull.

I answered yes, but then noticed that I skimmed right over the word 'pill' in the OP. Pills aren't really my thing, so we'll go with 'maybe'.

Anyway, I already basically live off of fruit and vegetable smoothies thanks to my nutribullet. Blending that stuff and drinking it is so much faster and more convenient than eating it, and it gives me the energy and nutrition I need... thank god for that option, otherwise I'd never eat fresh as I'm too lazy to cook or eat 8 oranges, loads of spinach, broccoli and a bunch of bananas in a day.
Thats kind of funny you say that, because i'm too lazy to blend stuff and have to wash the blender, etc and so I just end up eating things fresh

I would find a pill useful for some days, but I love trying new foods and restaurants and cooking and sharing food with people. So no, I would not give up food. That would eliminate too many exciting discoveries (cultural and otherwise). And what about 9½ Weeks??

Default not to intrude too much, but I can't just stand by and watch while someone eats a pop-tart

I have a Vitamix, which blends through almost any/everything. I cut apples/pears in half, vertically, then in quarters, also vertically. I then remove the stems, the seeds and the fruit-butt. I cut each quarter into two to three pieces, leaving the skin on, and put them in a blender with some ice cubes (approx 85% fruit, 15% ice).

    aaahh!

If the food doesn't matter, maybe have some dry oats? I was (more) broke, so I ate lots of dry oats; no preparation, they don't go bad, and they're CHEAP. Pop-tarts, specifically, are bad news; made of white wheat flour, hydrogenated oil, white sugar, and crazy chemicals. A person would easily be better off cooking and eating fresh roadkill than eating a pop-tart.

THIS is why i get on you about the poptarts, @Olly From Wally World... i couldn't care less about you getting tired of them You're poisoning your body with that disgusting non-nutritious fake food, and wasting precious stomach space with that stuff...

Lmao you guys. I forgot to mention that ever since Suz lectured me, it made me remember that I used to eat fruits back when I lived on campus so I've had fruits for lunch twice since then. Two Bananas and an apple. I'm gonna get on my eating healthy when I get back into working out which should be soon.

The food does matter kinda and sort of doesn't. It does in the sense that I want to eat good stuff (my mother believes i have expensive taste, I won't get off-name brand foods/drinks and buy expensive everything) and avoid some foods but it doesn't in that I don't care that much about eating and find it kinda unimportant. My mom was talking about how cruel I was not wanting to order my brother pizza yesterday when we were home together (we got some delicious pizza hut anyways but on her when he told her I don't have the money [that I'm willing to spend]), me not eating much makes me realize how little people actually need to eat. Then again, I may often be in that mode where I'm running on my fat or muscle, lol. There are times when I'm desperate and will even ride a bike to McDonalds but, overall, it's like either off or really on.

That made me giggle. You know, I walked up to my bag for poptarts and wasn't in the mood for them my second break. Like I walked up to them, stopped for two seconds and then left, wasn't feeling them second 15. Maybe it was my Fairy God Mother Suz. Only ate four, went to Dennys for lunch and got a french toast slam (wasn't hungry but just said yeah since coworker asked if I wanted to go) and didn't finish even one french toast. Ate it this morning though, it was good.

Probably, as it would be cheaper and healthier. But what I would really die for in a pill form is an "8 hr sleep" pill and "exactly right level of tipsy" pill.

It looked weird as hell. All wet, slick, slimy and monstrous-looking. I made exasperated noises seeing it again. Probably delicious but the super close up and first association made it nasty. I find food pictures irritating because it makes me remember I'm hungry, like I don't even know why people follow those food things on tumblr unless they want a recipe. Actually, my mom says I used to cry (and I didn't cry much) when I saw food on the commercials. She said I could eat a lot as a child. She just told me that she once fed me 8 ounces of milk and that I'd still want more so my aunt told her to give me more until I was full and she gave me like 40 ounces and I still wanted more, lol (or ESE story exaggeration). Now I am very removed from the realm of food, it doesn't feel familiar or desirable usually but when it is desirable it may be really desirable. Overall, I eat fast and get full easily but that's like a brief filling due to the speed.

Interestingly enough, one thing MBTI associated the INFJ's inferior Se with was overindulgence. It's like you get so out of tune with enjoying the sensations out there in the world that you overcompensate. In Socionics, it seems liking food is associated with though, by most. In Jungian, the intensity of perception is what drives irrationals so it better fits Jungian Se as what's important to Se is the object arousing the senses thus their reputation as pleasure seekers, it's not really abstracted. Whereas with Si doms, the sensations are subjective so they are overwhelmed by their own impressions, immediate experience of words or images recall experiences from the past. Filatova mentions some of this but, while the epicurean title would go to Se types in MBTI, in Socionics that's her nickname for SEIs. Oh yeah, you're identifying as SEI, does this fit you?

"It may be that while walking in the street, an Epicurean is struck with a strong scent of, say, a man’s cologne. If this is a familiar scent — a friend’s cologne, even if the friend used it only once, then Epicureans are caught by the feelings tied to the friend: attraction, antipathy, boredom, or embarrassment. Sometimes these feelings are so overwhelming that Epicureans may find themselves talking with this person in their mind."
