    Default Quadra and Humor

Has anyone else noticed that the funniest humor portrays characters from your opposing quadra?

On one hand, there are characters that are clearly ISFp that I HATE, like Roze in FMA or that dumb bitch in Samurai Champloo (if you've seen it, you know the one... the one Mugen grew up with... stupid whore... ), but then there are characters like Shawn in Psych (yes, I was wrong and Peter was right) and 3 of the main characters in Father Ted, including the ISFp in my avatar, who are hilarious.

Perhaps characters of the opposing quadra who are portrayed from a non-that-quadra point of view are amusing?

How do you know she isn't INFp? I don't think it's really clear at all which she is.

You can't judge it like that. You have to keep in mind that english humor is godlike regardless of characters.

And father ted is probably the best show ever.

It happens in Ireland (I think. Isle of something, I think it might be scotland) but I think it was a BBC production. That actor in your avatar appeared in other English humoristic shows as well.

And I also love "the new statesman" and "one foot in the grave".

    Default Humor and quadra

Quadras and the humor they are more likely to appreciate or tell (based on my own observation):

Alpha: Slapstick comedies, clean fun, able to make fun of themselves sometimes

Beta: like to joke on the expense of other people who are outside their group (sometimes cruelly), suggestive, dark humor

Gamma: rowdy, vulgar, shocking, sexual innuendos

Delta: dry and subtle, one-liners, business-like, serious, ridiculous, sarcastic

    (Sorry to offend anyone. )

I saw Epic movie the other day with my ENTj friend. I barely laughed once it was so lame. Like fart jokes and people getting hit by cars etc. Not witty at all.

One thing i tend to do all the time is tell white lies with a straight face. Like i might say omg dude i just spewed up a little on your car im so sorry. *causes everyone to look at me and my friend to start cringing* then i grin and give it away.

This looks good. Personally I'd be closer to Delta than to Gamma according to this. Maybe I'm really ESTj like some say.

My favorite sort of humor is absurdist. It is the sort of humor that is so seemingly random, out of left field, and yet at the same time, is still very self-conscious about its references and level of stupidity.

    What I Have Found Funny:
    - This is Spinal Tap
    - Dr. Strangelove
    - Monty Python's Flying Circus
    - Airplane
    - Sealab 2021
    - Freakazoid
    - Mystery Science Theater 3000
    - The Office

I think satire should be added to delta. We like to make jokes by pointing out peoples mistakes by extending it out to an extreme example where its clearly rediculous what they said.

    Example:
The other day a friend said the airoplane need to fill up with petrol, so I could help but say, yeah, I see planes at the petrol station all the time, they hog all the spaces and get in my way when im trying to fill up my car

    ENTp humor is goofy.

sarcasm seems so much more than , in my opinion.

it seems like i've read that some types with weak will use "dark" humor, (or appreciate it.)

eunice: i have also noticed the beta tendency to sort of make fun of people who are outside their group (yes, it can be cruel.)

i like this list, a lot, though. can we expand on it?

Somehow I get the feeling that just about everytype of humor which I like is in my quadra (and no other quadra!) and that all the humor which I dislike is in the other quadras (or at least attached to the function which my type does not naturally express). And if it is an intelligent sort of humor, then chances are, it belongs exclusively to my quadra and type.

Obviously since humor is exclusive to quadra, it means that you, Gilligan, are actually Gamma. Duh.

So sorry all, you can try and link humor to quadras and functions, but it does not take long for the discussion to degenerate into a free-for-all grabs for humor with every quadra and type insisting that a certain type of humor is a part of their domain on the basis of 1st-person limited experiences. Perhaps if instead of saying "Humor Type X belongs to Quadra X" an explanation as to why should be provided. Also, it must be kept in mind that if humor preferences are somehow linked to functions, then chances are, humor types are not exclusive to one quadra, but with multiple types that are shared between quadras and types. For example, the Alpha and Delta types may share commonalities, as might perhaps the Researcher Club of NTs.

I do somewhat identify with Delta humor, if anything because so many of my close friends are Deltas. Irony and plays on words make me

Gamma: rowdy, vulgar, shocking, sexual innuendos, irony, sometimes socially inappropriate

Delta: dry and subtle, one-liners, business-like, serious, ridiculous, sarcastic, self-depreciating humor

    (Sorry to offend anyone. )

Delta: dry and subtle, one-liners, business-like, serious, ridiculous, sarcastic

    (Sorry to offend anyone. )
I just think it's wrong, period. I've heard this sort of thing said. Doesn't seem to have much to do with Quadras. You can't explain everything with quadras. I know that this comes from some writings in Socionics. Well, some stuff in Socionics is just wrong.

I don't know any Gammas who like rowdy, vulgar, shocking humor. None. There's no connection whatsoever. I know some ESTps who like the rowdy kind of humor.

Anyhow, the idea that Alphas like "good clean fun humor" and that every, every other quadra likes jokes at other people's expense or some other demented variant is just plain ridiculous, sorry.

This thread is part of a larger issue in Socionics that's quite wrong and counterproductive. Socionics was founded by Alphas, and so there's a strain of Socionics that says Alphas are good everyone else doesn't measure up.

Implying that only Alphas like wholesome forms of humor (and that they, as distinguished from everyone else, sometimes make fun of themselves...ah how modest, how angelically modest Alphas are) is just a coded way of saying "Alpha good, everyone else bad." And it doesn't fit with observations at all.

[Edit: Oh, I didn't notice you added that Deltas can be self-deprecating sometimes too, even as they're being sarcastic. How magnanimous of you. ]
[PS, okay, I know I'm being a bit harsh. I realize that your signature says you're not even Alpha. I still think it's wrong and is based on the Alpha superiority thing in Socionics. Here are my observations:

I know ESIs who love slapstick humor, puns, and good clean fun.
I know SEEs whose form of humor is mock insults and saying the opposite of what they mean, and is never rowdy or R-rated.
I know Alphas would joke at other peoples' expense, just the way you say that Betas do.
I know IEI types who would never joke at other people's expense.

And these are not exception to a rule...This is just reality.]
