Default Enneagram type 7: all things Seven

for quotes, pictures, music, interviews and more pertaining to type 7

    7
    THE ENTHUSIAST

    The Busy, Variety-Seeking type:
    Spontaneous, Versatile, Acquisitive, and Scattered

    7 with a 6-Wing: "The Entertainer"
7 Seven with an 8-Wing: "The Realist"

    Type Seven in Brief
Sevens are extroverted, optimistic, versatile, and spontaneous. Playful, high-spirited, and practical, they can also misapply their many talents, becoming over-extended, scattered, and undisciplined. They constantly seek new and exciting experiences, but can become distracted and exhausted by staying on the go. They typically have problems with impatience and impulsiveness. At their Best: they focus their talents on worthwhile goals, becoming appreciative, joyous, and satisfied.

    7s and The Head Triad
Although Sevens are in the Thinking Center, this is not immediately apparent because they tend to be extremely practical and engaged in a multitude of projects at any given time. Their thinking is anticipatory: they foresee events and generate ideas “on the fly,” favoring activities that stimulate their minds—which in turn generate more things to do and think about. Sevens are not necessarily intellectual or studious by any standard definition, although they are often intelligent and can be widely read and highly verbal. Their minds move rapidly from one idea to the next, making Sevens gifted at brainstorming and synthesizing information. Sevens are exhilarated by the rush of ideas and by the pleasure of being spontaneous, preferring broad overviews and the excitement of the initial stages of the creative process to probing a single topic in depth.

The root of their problem is common to all of the types of the Thinking Center: they are out of touch with the inner guidance and support of their Essential nature. As with Fives and Sixes, this creates a deep anxiety in Sevens. Sevens cope with the loss of Essential guidance by using the “trial and error” method: they try everything to make sure they know what is best. On a very deep level, Sevens do not feel that they can find what they really want in life. They therefore tend to try everything—and ultimately may even resort to anything as a substitute for what they are really looking for: "If I can’t have what will really satisfy me, I’ll enjoy myself anyway. I’ll have all kinds of experiences - this way I won't feel bad about not getting what I really want."

    The Dada Manifesto
    ----- Tristan Tzara

In documenting art on the basis of the supreme
simplicity: novelty, we are human and true for the sake of amusement, impulsive, vibrant to
crucify boredom. At the crossroads of the lights, alert, attentively awaiting the years, in the
forest. I write a manifesto and I want nothing, yet 1 say certain things, and in principle I am
against manifestoes, as I am also against principles (half-pints to measure the moral value of
every phrase too too convenient; approximation was invented by the impressionists). I write
this manifesto to show that people can perform contrary actions together while taking one
fresh gulp of air; I am against action; for continuous contradiction, for affirmation too, I am
neither for nor against and I do not explain because I hate common sense. […]

    Dada Means Nothing
If you find it futile and don't want to waste your time on a word that means nothing ... The
first thought that comes to these people is bacteriological in character: to find its
etymological, or at least its historical or psychological origin. We see by the papers that the
Kru Negroes call the tail of a holy cow Dada. The cube and the mother in a certain district of
Italy are called: Dada. A hobby horse, a nurse both in Russian and Romanian: Dada. Some
learned journalists regard it as an art for babies, other holy jesusescallingthelittlechildren of
our day, as a relapse into a dry and noisy, noisy and monotonous primitivism. (...)

And so Dada was born of a need for independence, of a distrust toward unity. Those who
are with us preserve their freedom. We recognize no theory. (...)

Every product of disgust capable of becoming a negation of the family is Dada; a protest with
the fists of its whole being engaged in destructive action: Dada; know ledge of all the means
rejected up until now by the shamefaced sex of comfortable compromise and good
manners: Dada; abolition of logic, which is the dance of those impotent to create:
Dada; of every social hierarchy and equation set up for the sake of values by our
valets: Dada: every object, all objects, sentiments, obscurities, apparitions and the Tzara, “Dada Manifesto 1918”
precise clash of parallel lines are weapons for the fight: Dada; abolition of memory:
Dada; abolition of archaeology: Dada; abolition of prophets: Dada; abolition of the
future: Dada; absolute and unquestionable faith in every god that is the immediate
    product of spontaneity: Dada.

    The Crow and the Fox

A MASTER crow, perched on a tree one day,
Was holding in his beak a piece of cheese.
A master fox, by th’ odor drawn that way,
Spake unto him in words like these:
    “Good-morning, my Lord Crow! 5
How well you look, how handsome you do grow!
Upon my honor, if your note
Bears a resemblance to your coat,
You are the phœnix of the dwellers in these woods.”
At these words does the crow exceedingly rejoice; 10
And, to display his beauteous voice,
He opens a wide beak, lets fall his stolen goods.
The fox seized on’t, and said, “My dear good sir,
    Learn you that every flatterer
Lives at the expense of him who hears him out. 15
This lesson is well worth some cheese, no doubt.”
The crow, ashamed, and much in pain,
Swore, but a little late, they’d not catch him again.

Haha, Patrick Jane. Manipulation via intellect and persuasion, happy-go-lucky carefree nature, uses humor as a weapon, toy or source of passive-aggressiveness, charlatanism, narcissistic and exhibitionist about his intellectual superiority, 'presented as optimistic and enthusiastic but that being a facade of an attitude that doesn't necessarily correspond to how his deep feelings, light, rebellious, lack of respect for authority, etc.

"When I first heard Ichazo’s ideas of Protoanalysis, this was in Spanish, and he used the word “charlatan” for the ennea-type VII individual (and “charlatanism” for the fixation). This word also needs to be understood in more than a literal manner: that the glutton is one who approaches the world through the strategy of words and “good reasons”—one who manipulates through the intellect. Ichazo’s later word for this personality, “ego-plan,” makes reference to the fact that the “charlatan” is also a dreamer—indeed, his charlatanism may be interpreted as a taking (or offering) dreams as realities. Yet I think “charlatanism” is more evocative, for planning is a prominent trait of ennea-types I and III as well, and “charlatanism” conveys additional meanings, such as expressive ability, the role of a persuader and manipulator of words, deviously overstepping the boundaries of his knowledge. More than a mere planner, ennea-type VII is a “schemer,” with that strategic character that La Fontaine (a bearer of this disposition) symbolized in the fox."

    This reminds me of 7.

People of this personality type are essentially concerned that their lives be an exciting adventure. Sevens are future oriented, restless people who are generally convinced that something better is just around the corner. They are quick thinkers who have a great deal of energy and who make lots of plans. They tend to be extroverted, multi-talented, creative and open minded. They are enthusiasts who enjoy the pleasures of the senses and who don't believe in any form of self-denial.

*wondering if either of them are 7s*

    Enneagram Type 7:
Epicure, Entertainer, Optimist, Adventurer or Rationalizer

    Overview

You want to be fascinating, fascinated, optimistic and enthusiastic. More importantly, you want to be stimulated, creative, positive and excited. You see yourself as visionary, diverse and playful. You would like others to see you as interesting, sophisticated and fun loving. Your idealized image is that you are happy and joyful.

Outgoing and spontaneous, you love anything that is new, novel or unusual. A charmed charmer, you are fascinated by people, places and ideas. Upbeat, positive and optimistic, you naturally cheer up and inspire others. Quick to laugh and make a joke, you easily entertain people. You are also easily entertained. An idealist and visionary, you strive to create a paradise on earth by sharing your vision of love, equality and freedom. A ‘jack of all trades’, you often have diverse skills and interests. You are innovative, multi-talented, creative and at home in the world of things and experiences.

Like the hummingbird that moves in a frenzied blur from flower to flower, you seek the sweet nectar of excitement, new experiences, people and travel. If life gets you down, you escape your anxiety and boredom through variety and activity. Uneasiness is kept at bay by keeping busy with interesting and diverse experiences. Seeking a positive future with unlimited possibilities, you believe that the sky is the limit. You enjoy new ideas and live in the world of your imagination where you can manifest your dreams. You have a talent for squeezing the boredom and monotony out of routine tasks, turning the mundane into the magical.

A creative spirit, you need to be free to follow your heart. Eternally young, you have the light-heartedness of a precocious child or court jester. For you, love is about giving and getting your way – if you are loved, you will be indulged. Even if you are shy, you wish to be seen as a cool, hip, trendsetter. At times, you may act superior to others – even though you may secretly fear that you are inferior to them. An equalitarian, you enjoy people from all walks of life. Rather than buck authority, you find the way around it. Using your quick wit, bright eyes and ready smile, you have a knack for avoiding and diffusing conflict.

Being a 7 sounds pretty fucking good!
