Projection is ordinary. Person A projects at person B, hoping tovalidate something about person A by the response of person B. However, person B, not wanting to be an obejct of someone elses ego and guarding against existential terror constructs a personality which protects his ego and maintain a certain sense of a robust and real self that is different and separate from person A. Sadly, this robust and real self, cut off by defenses of character from the rest of the world, is quite vulnerable and fragile given that it is imaginary and propped up through external feed back. Person B is dimly aware of this and defends against it all the more, even desperately projecting his anxieties back onto person A, with the hope of shoring up his ego with salubrious validation. All of this happens without A or B acknowledging it, of course. Because to face up to it consciously is shocking, in that this is all anybody is doing or can do and it seems absurd when you realize how pathetic it is.
“My typology is . . . not in any sense to stick labels on people at first sight. It is not a physiognomy and not an anthropological system, but a critical psychology dealing with the organization and delimitation of psychic processes that can be shown to be typical.” —C.G. Jung
9w1 coz you seem calm, well-behaved, shy and fragile like you wouldn't hurt a fly
Nines ever smile?
I don't see w8 in you. So 9w1.
I don't see core 1 at all. But don't know about your wing either. You seem pretty balanced - you know how to stand up for yourself, where to draw the line and not to take shit. And you supposedly have a badass temper also Some 9w1 I know look like delicate fragile flowers, that will be blown away any minute, and I just don't get that feeling from you. So I vote balanced. Sorry
I'll give what I think is one big difference between E8 and E1: E1 represents a sort of combination of blocking yet implicit fulfillment of the E234 triad, and so it essentially seeks to, true to instinctual types, maintain the proper way to act on its environment - in its case, "proper" becomes largely about the ego as the cause of its negative experiences, rather than an aversion to objects. As E1 is still instinctual, though, it doesn't actively fixate on the meaning, purpose, and so forth of the ego's existence in the world as a matter of wishing to have significance, and instead focuses on not letting a single negative being attributable to stemming from the ego in its activities against the environment. Note that due to the lack of avoidance of the environment, however, this attitude gets fused with all environmental influences - the lack of adequate separation of the ego from it tends to lead to a compulsive need to disallow anything in the environment which could negate the ego's wish-image, which remains relatively unconscious unlike as in the image triads.
Enneagram 8 on the other hand represents a similar maintenance of distance from the fear triad while in a sense fulfilling the fear triad's attitude indirectly - in place of aversions to things, it seeks instead the most vigorous intensity of force in lusting after objects, essentially the opposite to the emotion of fear. Hence why this type isn't the kind to go around thinking whether they're vulnerable or not - they are more likely to have suppressed the emotion automatically and instinctually. You could say on the other end, E1 and E8 share common wing at E9, which is to say the reason they represent a moving away from the inertia of E9, although an incomplete one.
This person still strikes me as more of a 2 or 7 than 9.
