I kind of want to say ILE based on just the first video. Although I would've thought he was Ni-something (just as a vague impression) based on a couple of his movies.

If that first video doesn't scream "Aristocrat quadra" I'll make like Werner Herzog and eat my shoe.

I've read that EIIs can have averse reactions to violence in the media. And this guy directed Antichrist. Go long on the Beta NF typing.

Based on VI and after seeing Melancholia there is no doubt in my mind that he's IEI.

His personality is too antagonistic to be either a IEI or EII IMO..

    0:19 - 0:30, Fe-creative? Irrational, intuitive, merry, etc.

Edit: He's reminding me of ingmar bergman for some reason.

    one of alpha types, 9w1
    updated: SEI sp/so 9w1

    some of his quotes:

"I come from a family of communist nudists. I was allowed to do or not do what I liked. My parents were not interested in whether I went to school or got drunk on white wine."

"I grew up in a culturally radical home, where strong emotions were forbidden."

"My films are about ideals that clash with the world. Every time it's a man in the lead, they have forgotten about the ideals. And every time it's a woman in the lead, they take the ideals all the way."

"I don't know why everybody thinks I'm very, very small. This T-shirt I have now is Ingmar Bergman on a cloud. It was given to me a week ago. I'm not really sure he is on a cloud. I think maybe he went straight to hell, but that we don't know. "

"When I was younger, I was fascinated by David Bowie, for example. he had created an entire myth around himself. It was as important as his music."

"I am a man of very many anxieties but doing strange things with the camera is not one of them."

"If one devalues rationality, the world tends to fall apart."

"I know that I cannot be with a person for three hours without saying at least ten things that would kill me."

"Even this room holds a thousand stories you could include...for instance, the story of the origin of this chair. How has it been used previously and why is it exactly this chair here and not another chair which perhaps ought to have been here?"

"You can do almost anything on film now. With the help of computers, I can insert a herd of elephants into a scene, or create an earthquake. But that doesn't interest me. I'd rather draw the shape of a dog on the studio floor to mark that there is a dog there, or put a crate of beer in a corner to indicate a bar."

"I'm happy that I'm alive. I feel like someone coming back from Vietnam, you know; I'm sure that later on I'll start killing people in a square somewhere, but right now, I just feel happy to be alive."

"I'm having a vacation, and it's so beautiful, and maybe I'll never get another film idea in my life."

"First of all, I ask them to read everything really carefully, so I would not all of a sudden have to tell them 'Now you should masturbate in the woods and stuff.' Because in my experience, it's a very good idea to discuss that in advance."

"Because I'm a cultural rebel, I couldn't make a porn film without a dick and a condom. So it will have to be soft-core."

"I had an almost fetishistic attraction to film technology."

This themes are very far from Alpha quadra values. I have him as Ni ego, maybe NiFe.

Have you watched Nymphomaniac btw .

I don't use quadra values as a reliable method for typing, personal values too often supersede and eclipse them, but what about his themes that you don't see fitting into Alpha?

Yes, the other two of his movies I've watched are melancholia and antichrist. To use the quadra stereotypes approach, the subjects explored in Nymphomaniac are closest to the interests of delta quadra (relationships, morality, shame/guilt, gender roles, taboos and alternative lifestyles, family responsibilities, etc).

He's way too dark to be Alpha. Dogville, for instance, is a Ni approach to a "Se" - ruled society. He plays on the basest human instincts in all his movies. Imo as a quadra Alpha is more interested in wonderworld stuff rather than "underworld".

As for Nymphomaniac ..I only see the sharp taboo-shattering and a quasi-cynical combo of spirituality & sexuality. He's a master of contrasts in that movie. I see nothing about family, responsibility, or morality in that movie. And btw I've just had a conversation with a EII I know ...he confessed he doesn't like Von Trier, he can only stand an exploration of darker instincts in human nature in a more refined or 'culturally dressed' form. He called his take on stuff cruel, negativistic, and debasing. Could be personal taste though.

I love the mans movies from an artistic standpoint however I'm in complete agreement with your friend in terms of seeing him as cruel, negativistic and debasing (just based on everything Ive seen and read about him from the Idiots to breaking the waves, dancer in the dark up to nymphomaniac). He likes to shock for the sake of emotional reaction, which doesn't square with me.

negativist, naturalist (a little bit turpist)
moody, phobic, contentious, controversial, harsh, dark, weird, a little vulgar, boring, lonely
    intellectually bold, cruel and sadistic,

von Trier described his process as "writing a sketch and keep[ing] the
story simple...then part of the script work is with the actors."
    -run with the flow

    IMHO ILI-

He talks about “hierarchies” in his first video ... he also seems to be lacking tact

I quite enjoyed many of his films, most notably, Melancholia

    Beta NF Creative sub.

I kindof see him as IEI although EIE should be considered.
The decisive thing is not the reality of the object, but the reality of the subjective factor, i.e. the primordial images, which in their totality represent a psychic mirror-world. It is a mirror, however, with the peculiar capacity of representing the present contents of consciousness not in their known and customary form but in a certain sense sub specie aeternitatis, somewhat as a million-year old consciousness might see them.
