Default Most controversial issues in the US

I thought this was an interesting run-through, didn't expect such a high percentage for those who view having a child outside of marriage as wrong. how does this compare to other countries?

    1. Doctor-assisted suicide (45% morally acceptable, 48% morally wrong, 3% difference).

    2. Abortion (39% acceptable, 51% wrong, 12% difference).

    3. Having a child outside of marriage (54% acceptable, 41% wrong, 13% difference).

    4. Buying or wearing fur (56% acceptable, 39% wrong, 17% difference).

    5. Homosexuality (56% acceptable, 39% wrong, 17% difference).

    6. Medical testing on animals (55% acceptable, 38% wrong, 17% difference).

    7. Sex between an unmarried man and woman (60% acceptable, 36% wrong, 24% difference).

    8. Cloning animals (32% acceptable, 62% wrong, 30% difference).

    9. Using stem cells from human embryos for medical research (62% acceptable, 30% wrong, 32% difference).

    10. Gambling (64% acceptable, 31% wrong, 33% difference).

    11. Pornography (30% acceptable, 66% wrong, 36% difference).

I remember reading this a few weeks ago and wondering why on earth people were so uptight about pornography in comparison to the other issues, particularly abortion and 'Having a child outside of marriage', and to a lesser degree, euthanasia.

Yes & yes. Children should be cloned and "filtered" for genetic anomalies.

    3. Having a child outside of marriage
    5. Homosexuality
    7. Sex between an unmarried man and woman
    11. Pornography
Contingent on the interests of the state: i.e. overpopulation, underpopulation, war, etc.

    6. Medical testing on animals
    8. Cloning animals
On animals, citizens and helots, yes.

    10. Gambling.
For pleasure? No. As a means of facilitating control? Yes.

I just wrote my thoughts on overpopulation in my recent blog post.

I'm not a US citizen, I think many of those things are handled stricter in Germany (I mean the whole stem cell and cloning thing and verything concerning embryos and helping others with their suicide...our history which involves euthanasia defines those ethics very much and we want to avoid making the same mistakes again).
I don't care much about what other people do with their lives. I don't like the idea of abortion, unless you've been raped, because I think, if you don't want to get pregnant or sire a child there are enough methods to avoid it. But what makes me suffer more are thousands of women who decide to have children for reasons like receiving money from the state or their dream of forcing the men to stay with them in hope of being able to have a family, but ending up treating their kids like shit (the German movie "Little Thirteen" is an excellent example for that).
Love is like an energy, rushing in, rushing inside of me...

i think this one touches more people on a more pervasive and personal level than some of those other issues, porn addition is a widespread problem

that anyone considers wearing fur as wrong is still a mystery to me, haven't we used the hides of the animals we killed for consumption since the beginning of civilization? when did this start being the morally wrong thing?

yeah a lot of people haven't come face to face directly with abortion or euthanasia in their lives

that anyone considers wearing fur as wrong is still a mystery to me, haven't we used the hides of the animals we killed for consumption since the dawn of time? when did this start being the morally wrong thing?
i think its cuz of animals being killed ONLY for fur, which is pretty frivolous when there are plenty of other wearable materials. its not like some old timey thing where the whole animal is being used and its not like fur coats and food are really on the same plane.

Well, I don't consider wearing fur morally wrong and I wouldn't be protesting it or anything but for myself it is about raising animals to take their fur. If you're gonna eat it too then I would see that differently. I personally own leather and fur (a hand me down gift) but there are other options to fur now so unless someone lives in an area where you have no access to food and clothing and have to hunt your own I just think it is an outdated way of getting warm.

Edit: Yeah what @lungs said. Just read it...

This is me when someone wakes me up before I am ready..

Anyone who keeps a lynx as a pet deserve what they get.

I am not a fan of exotic pet ownership... It is just an individual choice I won't oppose but I won't be in favor of putting the animal down when they eat your face or your child.
