Please help me compile a new mixtape of sonic landscapes

Al Stewart and I Like Trains are two artists who are known for most\all their songs being about such matters...E.S. Posthumus have made Neoclassical (or whatever genre it is) tracks named after archaeological sites although in their case the link is more tenuous...any others?

My fave Al Stewart song is probably Nostradamus, which is probably going somewhat wayward straight away, but he was at least historical...:

El Degüello means "no mercy" or "to put to the sword". The literal translation is "a throat slitting". Originally a bugle call, it was used by Howard Hawks in the 1959 flick, "Rio Bravo". The musical score was composed by Dimitri Tiomkin. His score contains the haunting tune "El Degüello," which is played several times to build tension. A character (Colorado, played by Nelson) identifies the tune as "The Cutthroat Song". He relates the song's historical playing on the orders of Antonio López de Santa Anna to the Texans holed up in the Alamo to signify that no quarter would be given. The tune was used in the following year, over the opening credits of Wayne's film, The Alamo.

The Kent State shootings (also known as the May 4 massacre or the Kent State massacre) occurred at Kent State University in the U.S. city of Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of unarmed college students by the Ohio National Guard on Monday, May 4, 1970. The guardsmen fired 67 rounds over a period of 13 seconds, killing four students and wounding nine others, one of whom suffered permanent paralysis.

Some of the students who were shot had been protesting against the Cambodian Campaign, which President Richard Nixon announced during a television address on April 30. Other students who were shot had been walking nearby or observing the protest from a distance.^[7][8]

There was a significant national response to the shootings: hundreds of universities, colleges, and high schools closed throughout the United States due to a student strike of four million students,^[9] and the event further affected the public opinion—at an already socially contentious time—over the role of the United States in the Vietnam War.

Jammin' Me by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Tom Petty and Bob Dylan (who both later became members of the Traveling Wilburys), collaborated on this song which became the opening track on the album, Let Me Up (I've Had Enough). The song is about a man "overwhelmed by the volume of disconnected "news" generated in the disinformation age "containing a "laundry list" of 1980s celebrities such as Eddie Murphy, Joe Piscopo, and Vanessa Redgrave among others. Apple and Steve Jobs is also referenced. It follows in line with an ongoing theme throughout the album of people "who are reeling from media assaults and shattered relationships", but have a strong desire to survive in order to make sense of the world. Some of the lyrics came from Dylan and Petty picking words out of a newspaper and off the television.
