I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

Read the transcript abt 6 months ago or so, so memory hazy - but the gist of it is that your 20s aren't just a time to waste, some kind of extension of childhood/teenager years, because the choices you make and the development that you go through is very important. That even though people tend to get married, start families and start careers later now than they used to, it doesn't mean that waiting until you're 30 to even think about any of those things is a very wise choice.
--My opinion however is that life isn't about preparing for some later time. There isn't some prep period before we enter real life or whatever. Everything we do is our life. Seeing your 20s as preparation for your 30s and "real life" is imo kind of selling yourself and present life short, whether you "waste it" or put it to some productive use as she recommends. Because life isn't something that happens in your future. It's happening now. And has been your whole life. I have some thoughts kicking around about the whole notion of "what I want to be when I grow up" and the effect that has on how people think about their lives - but they're not fully formed yet. I also don't like the idea that there is some kind of standard grown-up life that everyone gets to at some point in time, and until then they're just children. In other words, I think she has good intentions but imo the advice only applies to people who seek to establish that specific standard of life that she sees as normal adult life.

All that time I "wasted" on doing crazy, "non-productive" shit in my 20s formed the memories that now give me the courage to go on more crazy unproductive adventures and not get bored out of my mind when I pay bills and complete projects.

As a general rule, following any kind of general "life advice" is pretty bad (except stuff like "don't die and don't kill yourself") because people either advise what worked for them or warn against what didn't work for them (not for you).
