    Default Pour Over Coffee Makers

Ok, so I got this Melitta Pour Over Coffee Brewer and the coffee is kind of watery. Anybody use these? I am using freshly boiled water. Also, it does not say how many teaspoons of coffee to use per cup. Anybody a pour over coffee person?

what happens if you simply use more coffee or a darker roast? How coarse and fresh is said coffee? Are you wetting the filter and saturating everything first?

Also, my daughter's cookbook says 2 level tablespoons ground coffee per 1 cup water. (1-1 1/2 tablespoons for gourmet) (experiment with the ratio and fineness of the grind to get a brew just right for you.)

1/2 cup beans = 1/2 cup finely ground coffee = about 8 cups coffee
The finer the grind, the stronger the brew.

Funny that you made a thread on this, I had been looking at and considering the idea for the past few days. (Don't want a coffee maker cluttering my newly cleared counters!!)

This is what i've been using for the last few months. I use three teaspoons of coffee and it's never watery, maybe because of how i brew it or the coffee I useee.. I only drink dark roasts though, so maybe it's the kind of coffee you're using. When brewing I fill it to the halfway mark, let it drain, fill it again, let it drain, etc, until the mug is full. Some people fill it all the way up, but I think that might make the water drain faster, which would increase wateryness.

b/c takes up less space, gud 2 use if your want coffee when you are not in civilization, thats why i use it, also cheap, although some coffee maker new is like 10 dollar, but they suck really bad and coffee tastes horrible b/c of it b/c you can't control temperature of water when you use coffee maker, should never use boiling water though for coffee, just heat water to almost boiling, should be fine, also, suggestion to use finely ground is good, seuggest.

in college i used an even simpler version than what you have. my great aunt gave it to me. she used it for like decades or something lol... it's like basically just a strainer, i forget what it looked like but it was old as shit and really simple.

Drip coffee makers sucks so you made a good choice. Do you need a filter for this? Most coffee makers like this come with directions.

As a whole this is a great way to make coffee, you get better flavor, temperature control and can customize the strength of the coffee.

From Melitta's website this is their recommendations.

"A standard cup of coffee is based on six ounces of water. For medium grind coffees, it is traditionally recommended that two tablespoons (roughly 10 grams) be used per standard six ounce cup. For finer grind coffees, it is recommended that only two teaspoons be used per six ounce cup. As coffee taste is a very personal matter, it is recommended that you adjust upward or downward the amount of coffee you use until you find the right portion for your own tastes."

you don't need a coffee maker
they are inefficient use of counter space. You need a coffee cone, which you can get at amazon for $5 and filters; get a #4 cone and filters. You need ground beens and a tea kettle too. Boil water pour over coffe in the cone and over the cup and that is ALL you will need for a perfect cup of coffee. If you want to be a coffee snob, watch this
