Post Comparing the DSM to Socionics.

    Mood:
A pervasive and sustained emotion that colors the perception of the world.
Conunon examples of mood include depression, elation, anger, and anxiety. In contrast to affect, which refers to more fluctuating changes in emotional "weather," mood refers to a more pervasive and sustained emotional "climate."

    Types of mood include:

    dysphoric:
An unpleasant mood, such as sadness, anxiety, or irritability.

    elevated:
An exaggerated feeling of well-being, or euphoria or elation. A person
with elevated mood may describe feeling "high," "ecstatic," "on top of the
world," or "up in the clouds."

    euthymic:
Mood in the "normal" range, which implies the absence of depressed
    or elevated mood.

    expansive:
lack of restraint in expressing one's feelings, frequently with an
overvaluation of one's significance or importance.

    irritable:
Easily anoyed and provoked to anger.

This is from the dsm IV

Do you guys think these are temperaments? Maybe communication styles.

How would you link those to socionics?

Don't think you're going to match every single one as to every single one not clash with each other.

DSM is a diagnostic manual to catalogue mental illnesses, I hope nothing relates back to anything I relate too

Although I think certain forms of madness will be more likely among different temperments/types.

That being said; DSM IV is widely disputed, should be (is in the progress of being?) revised. Socionics is an untested non-scientific system. So they have that in common at least ;-)

Reading DSM makes you acutely aware that everyone in your environment could be diagnosed with some kind of mental illness

Eh, the whole point of a mental illness or similar disorder is that it's so bad it interferes with your ability to function normally. People may (and do) exhibit a few traits of this and that without actually being mentally ill by current medical standards.

Yeah ^ was jokingly refering to doctors disease as it manifests in those who take abnormal psychology classes

Current medical standards when refering to DSM are pretty damn arbitrary though. Most psychologists I know tend to use "if it shows up in our clinics it's ill" as the definition

DSM V is the diagnostic manual now.

The DSM is just a reference, but it lacks validity. However mental illness certainly exists and is debilitating to many individuals, unfortunately the science isn't there yet and people have to make do.

Personality theory attempts to categorize healthy personalities but I think there is likely some correlation between personalities and the illnesses that can occur.

DSM V is lacking troll disorder, so I don't pay any attention to it.

There is one thing that got me started, it's that personality disorders aren't cureable.
You can't change your personality, or your personality disorder.
    Coincidence?

    Default Quadra shifting and DSM

    Hi guys,

now I believe that with the cognition styles, we all use 4 types of personnality:

    typingsheet2.jpg

I think that we all have 4 personalities, and these personnality disorders are even linked in the DSM.

A borderline will have some narcissim and depressive traits, etc..

Also, there are one of each quadra, that would explain how we change according to other people. If there are more alphas in our compagnie, we will act more with our alpha personnality type, etc..

We also have 4 communication styles, depending on the quadra we are in.
I noticed that I change my communication style depending on the person I interact with, and it fits.

Also, we can be Infantile/agressor or Victim/Careful. This is easy to see with the naked eye.

So this is where I am right now.

Comments? (except, the ones that say, OMG you can't give diagnostic to people! You need to get studies and such! Your a monster!)

As a counter-possibility, what do you think of Millon's subtypes? If you graft his subtypes onto Oldham styles, then the combinations of type and subtype are only a subset of what you have there.

I think that the subtype is what we choose, from our culture and genders.
I use the latest subtype definitions from V. Meged, A. Ovcharov, but I let people choose one or the other.

This is what I think we are born with.
The rest is about what traumatized us first, and subtype is what our culture and gender wants us to be.

I think that you are starting to make some sense. In general, I tend to view Socionics as having too much theory. It needs to go on a restricted diet - no more theory, become applied! But you are trying to make sense of this systemically.

Have you checked out School System Socionics? They are seeking to explain Socionic-Type as a developmental phenomena.

I have been checking out their website, lots of good info in there.

What I'd like to do, is to start making meetings and promoting Socionics Mtl, for montreal people.

Also, I like the idea of the cube.

DSM needs to be interested in non-sick people. They have the data I need. They can probably type people. I want to talk to a therapist about this.

The entire point of the DSM is to diagnose people who are sick, Why not leave it to its job and avoid sticking neurotic labels on people who don't need them?

Yeah, no, I'm done with DSM.

It did more harm then good.

I'm reading the Reinin Book now. It is my new bible.
We should erase all the wikisocion and redo it with the reinin book.

I'll be off for a little while, experimenting and reading, I'll let you guys know the results afterwards.

You need a lot of time to assimilate Reinin. I do not recommend using him. He is very confusing. He should be the second or third stage of learning. He is overwhelming to the average person.
