I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

life is a treadmill where you keep running under stimulus of pain. nothing brings gratification other than our deluded expectations of progressing towards being free from this struggle. but no matter how clever we are death wins in the end and our pain becomes an absolute.
I have to go through this part of life first and I leave it in God's hands to decide when this part ends and the next begins.

In all honesty though, I do agree - "I believe one will be the nearest to happiness when they are successful doing what they do best." Though, I can't say for all people, but I know for myself - I need positive reinforcement from my external environment, as well; knowing that my assets, whatever they may be, are not completely unnoticed. So, in addition to the things you said, I would like to add people to the list - people who encourage us (our strengths, skills, etc.) in some way.
