    Default Paul Ryan

Those of you with a passing familiarity with American politics in general or the House of Representatives in particular will probably at least recognize this guy. He was picked by Mitt Romney to be his VP today. Youngish guy, very much a budget hawk (although he did participate in the massive overspending of the late Bush years, which he regrets), and he credits Ayn Rand as essentially being a guiding force for his philosophies regarding governance and the individual whilst rejecting her atheism (he requires anyone working for him to read/have read her). He's also the braindaddy of the Ryan Budget proposal. Not sure what else to say that's sidewise relevant, since those are more vague biographical details rather than in-the-meat observations of the core driving mechanisms of his robot accountant mind. Take this interview for example:

I think he comes off as a rather confident, ideologically set man, which perhaps might be why Romney chose him (to ground his campaign run and place his flag in someone that at least seems to have defined beliefs), but also, despite his intelligence and somewhat cool politeness, is someone that just doesn't give off any kind of real warmth. Now, I'm not going to pretend to be a hard core political junkie analyst, but part of me is kind of curious by this VP selection. It's an odd play to me since I think that this seems like the first real political gamble the Romney campaign has taken in a run that's been wholly punctuated by indefinite culling of favor from every angle that they can get it, but I suppose this kind of pick is the exact kind of thing to help alleviate Romney's amorphous blob campaign personality thus far. But, ehhhhh, my political analysis wanking is getting me off topic.

As far as type goes, I'd probably be inclined to put him as an LSI. LII could be possible I suppose, but LSI seems better.

He reminds me of Bear Grylls, has those same expressive puppy eyes.

I would go with Se-ISTj phobic 6 (probably social 6w7).

I can see the So E6, but Ryan has a much stronger emotional affect than Gryllis; Bear just looks like an annoying unengaged doof, whereas Ryan has some semblance of being personable.

Another neocon airbag. He can sound like Ron Paul when talking fiscal responsibility, but he's just as much a fan of perpetual war as the next Orwellian caricature in American politics.

I haven't investigated him in depth to compare how personable he is, but was inclined towards decisive quadra due to his admiration of Ayn Rand whom he described as being very influential for him since high school: http://www.newyorker.com/online/blog...-ayn-rand.html but it looks like the consnsus is that he is some ethical type so ENFp is quite plausible. I'm not seeing EJ, he seems static-y.

concerning Grylls seeming unengaging and not very personable, this hasn't been my impression of him perhaps because I've recently seen the episodes about his excursion with Miranda Hart (vid) and him undergoing mercenary training in a group of 12 guys (vid, total Se feast there) which put him into a more social setting than most of his episodes, and he seemed to be fine on interpersonal level

Yes, same type as Matthew Morrison (aka dude from glee) but not IEE, instead EII.
If you think about something that happened in the show, during the Britney/Brittany episode, Emma was telling will that he needs to be less uptight and more adventurous, like SEE Carl/John stamos. Obvious IJ. The show is overall super Fi-ish, with him being the moral compass a lot of the time. This is pretty unrelated to Paul Ryan, but I'm just trying to point out: not Ep, but yes delta NF.

Nah I was actually quasi convinced by his record and some of his fiscal propositions, but he and Romney both reek of empty, soulless, fake hypocritical Christian-dom.

despite what the media repeats over & over again, Ryan does not make realistic fiscal propositions. for example, his fiscal year 2013 budget would cut federal spending across the board to unrealistic levels, while at the same time actually increasing the deficit.

now which type is best able to create a fraudulent reputation as a deficit hawk, while passing off their unrealistic ideology as responsible fiscal policy?

    http://taxvox.taxpolicycenter.org/20...lanced-budget/

... the Tax Policy Center figures Ryan’s 2013 budget plan would generate revenues of only about 15.8 percent of GDP in 2022. Without those [unspecified] base-broadeners, Ryan’s deficit in 2022 would balloon to about 4 percent of GDP.

That would be higher that the projected deficit under Obama’s fiscal plan, which CBO projects would be about 3 percent of GDP in 2022.
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...tive-reformer/
Ryan says that under his budget, everything the federal government does that is not Medicare, Medicaid or Social Security will be cut to less than 3.75 percent of GDP by 2050. That means defense, infrastructure, education, food safety, energy research, national parks, civil service, the FBI — all of it. Right now, that category of spending is 12.5 percent of GDP.

... [Ryan's] tax cuts have a 10-year price tag of more than $4 trillion, but he’s not identified any offsets.

that's just naive to claim that all government budgeting is fluff; federal government's spending & handling of money, tax policy, etc. effects everyone on a daily basis. if for example Congress decided to cut education spending by half, you can bet the consequences of that policy will results in school closures, teacher layoffs, declining school conditions, etc. as well as hurting college students who depend on Pell Grants, etc. - all of which will have massive effect on the households that depend on public schooling & grants for their children's educations, resulting in negative social ramifications.

that's an extreme hypothetical example, but such unrealistic extreme spending cuts are right along the lines of what the Ryan budget proposes, and that's what makes it "exceptional".

to respond to your edit in your last post:

even if this budget policy would be unlikely to be in effect decades from now, it's still important to acknowledge the fact that Ryan crafted & backs this ridiculous policy, while still being touted by the media as a responsible deficit hawk.

I've heard the hype in the GOP for this guy is that he's the fiscal guy and is a second Regan -- which in all honesty Regan is overrated imo, and I wouldn't be surprised if much of his ideas were based on the image of being a new Reagan and not actually on substance.

Haven't looked into this that much but definitely look forward to it.
