    Default Gilly's Media Thread

Here I will share music and other art that I find worthy of sharing.

I start you off with some yummies from Portland, OR: visual art from my sister, who is a phenomenal artist, and a couple of tracks from Phutureprimitive, an up-and-coming dubstep producer who I am really into at the moment.

This is his remix of Mad World by Gary Jules. I love it.

    http://soundcloud.com/phutureprimiti...ules-mad-world

This is my sister's interpretation of the Strength card from the Tarot.

But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

This is one of her masterpieces, it has to be seen in person to be truly appreciated but I think it is a phenomenal piece in and of itself:

This is another one of her best, IMO

Again they really have to be seen in person to be appreciated, which I find to be true of most paintings, but ESPECIALLY oil paintings. There is just a whole other sheen that they take on with natural lighting that is really a sight to behold. I remember when I went to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam I was floored; I had seen Van Gogh prints all my life, we had some in the house growing up and I'd been to plenty of exhibits, but seeing the paintings in the flesh was nothing short of a spiritual experience.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

Here is another one of Phutureprimitive's best tracks, the first on his album Kinetic. It's called Cryogenic Dreams:

But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Alex Grey isn't as much a well-kept secret as he used to be, but his art is still amazing:

Theologue is probably his best-known piece.

But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

Yeah she's awesome She's opening her own design firm soon. Her husband is a composer and they collaborate on some pretty awesome multi-art works, they did a musical and visual interpretation of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for a Halloween gig with the Portland Chamber Orchestra last year.

Infected Mushroom is probably my favorite band of all time, the are one of the most diverse electronic groups in history and are insanely progressive in their approach, every album is a new sound.

ohhh I would have loved to have heard/seen the Frankenstein thing! that's cool! Thanks for posting all of this. I completely agree about needing to see paintings in real life. They're so different. Texture yes and sizing too. When I was little we used to play the game Masterpiece. And I'll never forget seeing some of the art that was in the game later in museums as a young adult, and feeling amazed at the size and presence some of them had in real life.

Yeah it was pretty cool, it was a masquerade too so it was kind of crazy. Only in Portland would an event that's open to the public like that happen, lol...

Heh, Amanda Palmer grew up in the town right next to mine. I've seen her live with Jason Webley (amazing duet), and met her in a comic book shop one time. She is incredible as a solo artist, though I miss the Dolls. Do you think she is EIE?

Yeah, EIE-Ni, I think she is my Enneagram identical too, 3w4 sx/so. I think her tritype is different, though, 3w4/7w8/1w2: assertive, frustration, competency.

I did! Sorry I didn't post any feedback. I listened to the first two. The first one, her makeup reminded me of the women on the Robert Palmer "Addicted to Love" video so I was kind of distracted. I'm not sure what I think of her! She's a little in your face. I'll listen to the other tracks now...
