Default Post words you find beautiful

Language doesn't matter, although you might want to add a translation or definition to unusual and/or non-english words. Meaning doesn't have to matter, but it can.

    Just post your words.

    I'll start.

    Cerebral

I find this word synaesthetically pleasing... It gives my brain a tingling feeling and I see colours.

    Aivot
Finnish for brain(s). And just now I realized how many brain-related favourite words I have. I just like the way they sound. I have a special thing for the diphtong "ai".

    Neural
More of these. This is warm and runs all over my skin.
I like it better written than spoken, but both are wonderful anyway.

After my grandma's funeral, when I was in my 20s, we had a get-together at my parents' house, and my cousin went on and on about how the most beautiful word in the English language is chlamydia, and how unfair that such a lovely word should belong to that.

I like the words myth and rhythm. Something about using Y as the only vowel.

Pillu – finnish for pussy. Usually considered vulgar, but I think it's just gorgeous. Also, kulli – equivalent for "cock".

That's a very nice word. To me it's like butter.

There's a lot of words I find beautiful. A couple of anatomical ones for me are ganglion and alveoli.

Now that I think about it, this might seem a bit too revealing about me but I don't know whether it actually is.

Most words with an addition of a- or -th such as asleep or fucketh in dost thou fucketh off. And I like many many Latin/Greek words, especially compound words that make use of them being fairly isolating languages. I also like to use plural of some -us ending words when it changes to -i like "octopi", "fungi" and "cacti". Also some Christian concepts because I like Christian romanticism and Satan.

Please don't quote the whole list.

I would say that ethically you are still supposed to act as if you have unilateral responsibility; but simultaneously you have to be able to see the other as a fully autonomous, free, aware person.

Medicalizing social problems has the additional benefit of rendering society not responsible for those social ills. If it’s a disease, it’s nobody’s fault. Yay empiricism.

I like a lot of words with "th" in them, maybe because I couldn't pronounce them for the first 12 years of my life. Lots of chemical names I like have "eth" in them, and I like the contrasts in long words, so a lot of sciencey words are very fun to say/hear. The "th" and "f" sounds are very pretty to me. I like neural too Something about it is very precise, turning into roundedness, like a spiral opening. I also like very sharp, knocking words, like eastern European surnames ending in "ich".

Some words also sound better in different accents, I'm fascinated with words that have "g" in the middle, as pronounced by a friend from the West Midlands - he really emphasises the "g" sound. I also love how a lot of Europeans deal with their dipthongs, I make my German colleague repeat English and German words sometimes because I like hearing them. She probably thinks I'm making fun of her...

    Nice words:

    Cryptosporidium
    Phenylalanine
    Effervescence
    Fallacious
    Pseudoephedrine
    Phenolphthalein
Methylethyl ketone (this one is fun because you rush the first bit then slow down on the "ke" - like hitting the bottom of a hill then going up the next one a little with just momentum)
    Silmarillion
    Irrashaimase
    Defenestration
    Sciatica
    Lymphatic
    Diphthong
    Fluorescein
    Fuckwad
