Who comes out on top in terms of theory, in you opinion?

I don't think either of them works, at least not as they are. A lot of Freud’s analysis was done on young wealthy women who he considered hysterical, never paying attention to the fact that many of them were molested. And I think Jung mixed in too much mysticism.

i liked jung's mysticism to a degree. like i remember the first time i read anything jung (in highschool) it seemed deeper.

and i agree with oyburger that a lot of the women freud analyzed, a lot of the things that freud thought were problems, were just... not. in my eyes at least. i have always had some vague weird "this is totally wrong" feeling about anyone who mentions freud in their reasoning.

I have the problem of writing off whatever they say next.
I don't like tohe concept of having to be in therapy for the rest of my life. If you go to a Freudian psychoanalyst, you're there for life!

Jung is much better than Freud IMO.

Freud uhhh.... I dunno. My bullshit detector just goes off way too much with him.

All psychological theories have something that makes my bullshit detector go off like 'LMAO THEY TOTALLY JUST PULLED THAT OUT OF THEIR ASS' but with Jung it's a LOT less.

I don't think many professionals take his theories seriously anymore. But he is important when trying to gain a foundation about psychology, just take his theories with a grain of salt.

i find that the ISTj guys i know think he's just awesome what with all the men-are-x-way-and-women-are-y-way constructs.

People like Betrand Russell or Sigmund Freud I cannot read through no matter how hard I try. Too boring, too shallow, too much irrelevant information. Now Jung, there's a guy I could appreciate reading, IF he wasn't so much of a psychoanalyst.

But I do like Freud for his positivism and thoughts on sex and man. All in all, I think Freud said more than Jung did.

Freud's theories are fraudulent. Some parts of Jung's views are probably junk, whereas other parts are still too ca(r)llow and young to make a final verdict on ...

I guess they both contributed a lot to our understanding of irrationality in a human nature. Freud moved it forward as regads to describing blocks and drives to live and to destroy. He described the dynamics. It is more about Id drives. Young contributed to understanding of collective unconscious and Superid - mysticism and described types. I can not imagine how could we diecide between the two Teachers - they both are great and we do not know if we would have had Young if we would not have Freud. Knowledge does not come from nowhere but from one person to another, stimulated and developed further. We are nothing without each other.
