Default What Was It Like First Idendifying Your Type?

Out of curiosity, once everyone found out their type and could identify with some of the descriptions and traits, what did you initially think or feel?

For me I was almost laughing as I read the entp descriptions, seeing how right on most of it was. Also it really got me going and interested to see what types people I knew were so I could create some sort of concept map relating experience and people's expressions to personality types.

What did identifying with a particular type do for you?

It was satisfying like a long night of passionate sex, only to wake up sober and realize you slept with the ugliest woman in town.

since the first time you discovered your type you did not claim to be ISTj, how is this relevant?

edit: nvm, i should have realized that you probably have never discovered your type.

Yes, If I was trapped in a box for the past 6 months than it would be obvious.

I saw the first ENFJ/P score w/description like 5 years ago from an MBTI thingy. I was pretty much, "Uhm...sorta/kinda." The problem is that theyre all written in hyper-retardenese. Grats to anyone that can truly relate to one

When I thought I was INTj and I read the ENTj description (just in case), I became very quiet and started to pout. My mind was saying "ohshit,ohshit,ohshit,ohshit..." and I turned to Erkki, "Honey, that doesn't describe me, right?". I was doing the puppy-dog eyes, so he would surely agree with me. But he disagreed! and now I'm having a hard time finding people who believe I'm ENTj.

In a sentence: "There are other people like this?"

In lots of words: I thought that it was absolutely absurd to believe that another person in the WORLD could think and behave so similarly to me, because honestly, I don't know that I've met many ENTps, and only one of them has been my subtype (that I know of). The detail that it went into about thought processes and patterns of behavior quite honestly astounded me.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

that's just about how I felt when I read mine, but that was nothing compared to how I felt when I came here and other forums and read others perceptions of me and how even the smallest things about me were things that others noticed in other ESTJ's. As far down as to the way I walk/strut sometimes...lol

Which is your ENTp subtype, Logical or Intuitive? How did you decide? What were some qualities you were able to identify with?

I think I'm leaning toward intuitive but still am trying to figure it out.

The biggest surprise was discovering that Intuition is actually a function - a way of perceiving reality that has its strength and is NOT in itself inferior to Sensing.

In a sentence: "It's normal to be like this?!"

Somewhat similar to me as well. Realizing that I'm not a freak and that the way I behave is normal.

Intuitive. I decided by reading Gulenko's descriptions:

I would say intuitive subtype for myself, but the ethical subtype description didn't make much sense to me.

Because it would mean that I would have to make a full self-analysis. I was reluctant for about a week, staying hesitant, to make sure if the road of ENTj is the real one. My self-analysis is still active, so it was very good to make sure because otherwise it would have been pointless waste of time.

I remember when you posted in the INTj functional analysis thread... I was like "oh dear... that girl is NOT INTj. She's a feeler of some sort... maybe I should say something... nah."

I went through a 'this piece of writing knows more about 'me' then me' phase.

Got emotionally involved with the identifications made...

    then I calmed down.

A few years later and I discovered Socionics which 'undoes' the damage caused by MBTI in my opinion.

'The damage' equating to the dictatorial 'you ARE this and this IS how your life works and how you can expect to BE like this in the future' kind of personality profiles circulating around the Web.

I find you eventually get sick of it when you wake up to the reality of your own reality.

    See The Forer Effect...

Note: I didn't discover my personality as such through Socionics, it simply helped reassert my relative nature towards others since the 16 types in Socionics remains Secondary as opposed to Primary in the MBTI.

I never thought that it wasnt normal. I had more trouble trying to explain it to others without them thinking Im nuts...

    Indeed.

I gave up labelling myself since I don't believe in 'pigeonholes'.

    Why?

I soon realised that pigeons represent filthy birds that don't do much apart from gather in large crowds and deficate everywhere.

Who needs to live like that?
