He reminds me of someone who I think is ESTj. So ESTj perhaps?

i kept thinking ES__, at the least. admittedly, i was thinking ESFp, too. ESTj could also work.

they do look a hell of a lot alike, eh?

their lyrics even sort of have similar themes, i think.

    any other votes for ESFp/ESTj?

Default Brian Wilson = genius (video)

Brian Wilson wrote some of the greatest pop songs of all-time... Dozens of them--Good Vibrations, Wouldn't It Be Nice, God Only Knows, Caroline No, etc. He also spent ENTIRE YEARS in his room, with extreme mental problems/drug problems.

I'm wondering what you think Brian Wilson's Socionics type is... (I know that there's an old thread on him--ESFp and ESTj were put forward at that time... I'm hoping for more ideas.)

Here's a bio of Brian Wilson from Wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Wilson

Here's an interview with Brian Wilson from the early 1970s:

    come on ppl, please try.

I admit, it's a tough one... It's tough to type someone who's obviously at least a little bit, uh, crazy.

To me, the interview seems to indicate a Gamma or Delta type.

I just saw him live, and honestly, I've never seen a performer less concerned with the Fe atmosphere of a show... It was all about Si--and what little stage banter there was, was all Fi.

If we're going by the interview posted, I believe that he's ESXj... Delta more likely than Alpha.

You're right implied, the above video indicates ESXj... Si valuing is very obvious... I believe that Brian Wilson is more likely ESFj>ESTj actually, having watched all of that.

The concert: it was weird... At the beginning of Good Vibrations the crowd was about to go nuts, but he told everyone to 'be seated!' in this really abrupt tone--killed the mood... Ppl actually looked at each other like 'wft?' Throughout the whole concert, Brian Wilson seemed to be paying attention to the quality of his band's music, sometimes chastising them for missed notes, (in Socionics language, focusing on Si.)

Wilson did not attempt to interact with the audience at all except for one portion where he asked us all to sing "row row row your boat," and then asked his backing band harmonize with us, (it sounded really cool actually.) That was it though. One got the feeling that Wilson could've cared less whether the crowd enjoyed the show--he just wanted to hear the music performed well. (That said, I really enjoyed the show.)

Let's put it this way: Brian Wilson is no Freddie Mercury (ENFj) or David Lee Roth (ESFp)... The crowd was not 'worked' in any way, haha

I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

He had schizophrenia for years and has only relatively recently been getting over it. The best material to work with would probably be interviews from before his mental breakdown.

In this audio interview, Si is clear. Te can also be argued for, though I'm less sure on that.

I see more Fe in his quotes:

Love and Mercy has some really good acting. I particularly liked the studio sequences, where Wilson was at his best.

I've worked with this version of the sociotype on and off over the years. Their thoughts are always spinning, never seem to land. Something Ne HA related about it.
Si is obv for anyone to see.

Didn’t he like…hide in his room in his bed for a really long time, like years??? 2 years??? Doesn’t seem very LSE’ish. I thought maybe XSE before, but I guess I have a different understanding now. I think 1DSe makes a lot more sense. Especially considering how he got in a situation where he was being used big time and had to get someone to help him out of it. And he was pretty good natured about it, considering, if I remember right…
