I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

I made a sausage rigatoni yesterday, it was good, but I need to remove the casing and use spicy sausage next time. Also would have been better if I made my own tomato sauce.

I'll do prepared food but if I did that I rather just get a bag of Bertolli's or something like that.

But I want to learn some basic italian stuff so I don't feel so ignorant. These seem easy enough.

A never ending traditional dish: pasta con pesto (alla genovese) - you need to find a place where you can buy good pesto, though

another one, Risotto ai funghi porcini (porcini mushrooms):

http://www.risotto.it/porcini.htm (use google translator, the english recipes suck)

another one, this is a mediterranean classic, you can find it all along the coast down to greece - fried squid; the squid must be FRESH!!

then going down towards rome, you have the classic "carbonara" pasta, which should be made with pecorino romano as additional cheese, NEVER parmigiano / grana

mmmm going to add some more later

Prawn and asparagus - ok, good

pasta all'amatriciana - doesn't look good, it looks kind of dry and clean...this is how it should look:

pizza-filled pasta shells - vomit, avoid that kinda thing

Did you ever try Piola Libri in Brussels? They have really typical "modern" italian food, actually it's even better than most places in Italy...you need to get one glass of wine and then you can eat for free

I think it's fairly new, although I don't know precisely how long it's been around...5 years maybe?

Anyway it's near Schuman, google maps says "Rue du Franklin"

When can I pay you a visit, FDG? Don't care about the calamari, but I'll eat anything that resembles the other dishes.

Very little food served in very large plates? You must be very hungry, very constantly...

Whenever you prefer! Well, perhaps preferably on the weekend.

    This is another plate I really enjoy, even though I rarely manage to eat them - they're not that easy to find;

This looks good, the combo of arugula and balsamic vinager should be good. It's called like "rocket" in the reciple?

However; there's a huge tendon in the picture of the beef and it's not properly seared... no stick pan... noooooooooooo
