Should I buy a Samsung Galaxy Tab 101?

Should I buy a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1? Here is what I want it for. I want something to do word processing on, but that has a longer battery life, less heat, and less weight than my laptop. I do not want a data plan, if I can load programs into it without a data plan and use a usb port to transfer data then it should work for me.

So the question is, how do I load programs onto it? Can I do it without downloading them?

How can I transfer data from it?

Any thoughts?

EDIT: can I connect an ethernet cable to it? If I can, I can download from my landline service plan.

You only need one Ethernet port. For USB, you can buy a splitter.

Most of the Android tablets (and iPad) do not have Ethernet port. Maybe you'll like the Transformer as it has 2 USBs, SD and mini-HDMI on the optional dock.

You don't need a hotspot; you can get netbooks and tablets with built-in connectivity to a mobile network. At T-Mobile we sell a 4G capable 10.1 Galaxy tab.

However I think he should wait for a windows tablet if he wants something that will really replace a portable computer for his purposes. Windows 8 OS will have better native support for Word, Excel, etc.

Okay, when is a Win 8 OS tablet coming out?

For portable computing, there's also a Chromebook. With that you can access any existing google web apps like Docs, and I think any of the apps in the app store.

My warning would be that Google's version of Excel is rather shit.
