Default IEEs-ENFps visualizing and simulating future situations

If I'm not mistaken, then ENFps are known to be enthusiastic and excitable. Right? Right. Now, I'm just reading something about how to plan projects, and one of the things you apparently must do is visualize the result. Sorry: THE result. Wild success. Open top limos, ticker tape parades, champagne. Apparently some time during the 60s they discovered that visualizing stuff like that lets your brain work better when you're planning the actual details of the project. AND "people generally are more enthusiastic and feel that the project is unique and positive..."

That sentence reminded me of us. Could it be that ENFps work that way a lot?

Yeah what's this "plan" thing you're talking about?

I have a complete picture of what I want done to my house. I have all these projects in mind. I don't really have much of an idea of how to make them happen.

adn is your pictuire multidimensional like mine? very ephemeral might be another word: my house hardly has any "real" walls - they all can change at the blinkof the eyes inside my head

I don't know, I guess they're kind of vague. I don't have a good sense of space or measurement, so I get ideas and sometimes they aren't practical. I was telling my husband all these things I wanted to do with our daughter's room and he said, "There's no way that'll all fit in there!"

Most often I visualize (including all the emotions desired)... and visualize... and visualize. Then. something might attract my attention to the fact that nothing is as I visualized it.

*Sigh* Guess sometimes actual work is required.

But, I gotta make sure that nothing will stop me once I get started, so I set about drawing up a plan of action, step by step works best for me. So that I only have to focus on the next step. This way, if I get side tracked, I just have to go to the last completed step.

Unfortunately, by the time I have everything planned out, I'm mentally drained. Which means that it is time to set aside that project and recoup my energies by visualizing the next project.

I tell you, an ENFp's work is never done!

When I tortured myself through my Masters thesis, I kept visualizing myself walking across the stage in cap and gown to get my diploma. It really kept me going. And it also helped that my topic was unique, yes.

I usually have some vague but compelling idea on many matters. Usually I will imagine, talk and read alot about them without taking any real action. Finally I'll get mad at myself and set it up so I have to do something. For example I enrolled in some summer classes because I cant stand the idea of not getting my degree which is what I kept telling people I would do. So I guess I put my pride and self esteem on the line when I tell everybody about what I am going to do.
I use both positive and negative stimulation to get me into action but positive works best. I much rather congratulate myself for getting in shape than berate myself for getting pudgy.
Sometimes a good night sleep is all that is needed to get me centered and focused on what I want to do. I just wake up and Im reved up. I make out a to do list and just hop to it. Little goals are easy but bigger ones are like wading through tar. I constantly have to push myself.
Resting on my laurels is not an option.

ENFPS, AS A RULE, TEND TO HAVE ROOM TO TAKE THE PHYSICAL ENTHUSIASM DOWN A DEGREE OR NINE!

Take it from me, a victim of praise.

Thanks for the responses. I thought so. Yeah, the plan thing... and the follow-through thingummy... and the * whispers * quality control... But say "brainstorming" and "visualizing", and we can lift our heads and punch the air. Could this be the source of our enthusiasm? Apparently enthusiasm comes from being able to visualize a desired outcome; we're good at visualizing stuff; hence our enthusiasm. QED.

The problem is that it works like a pair of binoculars. The outcome is so close and so vivid that I feel I can get there by taking one single step. Then I put down the binoculars and look at the huge distance I'd have to travel. The contrast is discouraging. It's easy to just give in and say "oh, why bother at all?"

One nifty trick I'm beginning to learn about is to never "do a project". Always break it down to one single, simple, real-life task you can do next. "Make jam" - urk. "Measure out sugar" - that works. I COULD have kept that trick to myself, but I'm basically a kind and selfless person, so there you go.
