    Default attractiveness

It's my theory that very attractive people, particularly females, will be forced to develop stronger Fe than people of their type generally have in order to defend themselves. Similarly, I think people who are a type that should have relatively strong Fe but who not particularly attractive will end up developing other functions more than the average person of their type.

    What do you think?

true. attractive people have little personality. ugly girls are fun to hang out with because of 1. time alone gives them time to develop 2. they need you to hang around.

I would have thought it's the opposite - pretty people can be popular with less . (The shy pretty kind of people.)

And the other kind of opposite - It's not that people who are pretty develop more , but vice versa - people seem prettier because they have . They know what to wear (different dress-codes), how to act, who to talk to and how... I suspect ESFjs are the best at being pretty and popular, because they also have good balance, under control body-language, etc.

Can't say I understand Joy's theory. The best I can do is:

If you're ugly and unattractive, you get ignored. If you're ignored, you don't have any opportunity to practice Fe skills. If you're attractive, people notice you and interact with you. Plenty of opportunity to use your Fe.

A bit like the difference between watching a play and being on stage.

Not sure if that's what she meant. Because, obviously, if you're ugly, then you've got to work very hard to make people treat you in an OK kind of way. If you're pretty, you get a lot more tolerance, kindness and attention for the same amount of work.

Attractive people have to develop Fe because people are always approaching them. They either have to use absolutely no Fe and tell that person to fuck off, or they have to develop Fe in order to recognize what it is people are after and deal with them in a diplomatic manner. Also, the use of Fe is strongly rewarded. An attractive woman doesn't *need* to do much of anything in life except smile and be charming, and she'll get whatever she wants.

Unattractive people aren't rewarded as much for they're use of Fe. Even with Fe, there's a good chance that they'll be shunned by the masses. For this reason they develop other functions... the masses respect a smart person, a strong person, an artist, etc. Because other functions are more likely to be rewarded, those functions are used more. A classic example of this is the geeky girl who finds that she "fits in" as an intellectual. I think the worst case scenario would be someone not being rewarded for Fe and overdeveloping Fi and becoming a whiney little bitch.

I want to be attractive but more for myself than other people. I want the option of being a heartbreaker but in reality, I'm too lazy to bother and guys who don't think the way I do just makes me mad. Like I don't like guys just for their looks, i care about what's in their head and heart. If they're not ambitious, can't write for shit, can't tell fake people with their fake chit chat and smiles to silently fuck off, then he's not worthy. That's normal for an INFP, right?

I have a friend who's not attractive and doubt will ever be but she's very smart. That's the only thing going for her.

Not to be mean but most of the overachievers are not great in the looks department. The ones who become valedictorian and go to Yale/etc...or maybe just the ones in my school.

And attractiveness have a lot to do with personality too. You need to have an openess about you that just draws people in, a friendliness that I can never fake.

I've never quite understood why there are seemingly less "intelligent + physically attractive" people than "intelligent + not physically attractive" people and/or "not intelligent + physically attractive".

It's like when you have one, you can't have the other. Why the hell IS that, for the most part?

In my case however, I have the best of both worlds.

I was thinking that some ugly people(I USE THIS TERM LIGHTLY.) develop their Fe so they can charm and ingratiate themselves with others in ways their first impression can not.

but really, why are attractive people so great?

yeah, me too. It takes a lot for me to be attracted to a person, and I'm almost never instantly attracted to anyone. It takes a hell of a lot more than superficial things for me to find someone attractive.

I suspect I have a bit of J in me and as I get older, I'm becoming more J. I said this before. I used to be very P though. Perhaps I'll remain INFX.
