    Yes.

Truckers are usually of the δ-ST variety.
Sometimes I wonder if it is their personality which made them become interested in the job as a Trucker, or quite a number of Truckers are trying to be Delta-ST in order to fit in with the image of an average Trucker and the group so as to be accepted?

Mine too. I know quite some SLIs into driving and mechanics, though I can't remember any driving a truck.

That doesn't fit truckers then. They work very very hard and have terrible hours, bad enough hours they have trouble finding time to sleep, and make really lousy pay.

Are you fucking kidding me? Some truckers make 6 figures. And they dont work "very very hard;" they pop No-Doz and sit on their asses for 12 hours at a time. I used to haul a 400 lb wooden cart half a mile to set up a farmers market stand with over 100 lbs of baked goods. THAT is hard work.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

My friend's brother is one and he friended me on Facebook so I see the play-by-play of his days, and he has nothing - no house, his car was repossessed, and he had to move in with his sister. He works crazy hours and gets almost no sleep. He makes almost no money. There are some who make six figures but my understanding is that they own their own vehicles, and the upkeep and cost of the vehicles eats up a lot of that.

Well your friend's brother is getting screwed in the bum bum. Either that or he's spending all his money on meth and hookers...like most truckers.

My cousin had no financial problems with this job on the truck. In fact he supported all his family for years and in the end bought a truck and made his own business - he drives it and he gets all the money (excluding taxes). He's based in Canada, in case there's a difference compared to US. It occupies most of his time and heard him he would like to retire, but I never heard him talking about sleep problems or hard work (or I don't remember).

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a difference in Canada. Is he in a union?

I think so based on my knowledge that he communicates with other truck drivers through the radio.

Difference? Apparently my words fall on deaf ears. I'm telling you, plenty of truckers make really good money. Your friend's brother probably has some other shit going on, or just has a crappy job.

That's all truckers, you don't need to be in a union to use a CB radio. In fact I think just about all truckers do.

Maybe reread. Apparently none of them make "really lousy pay" if the newbies take home 50k. It's not a job I would want, but it pays the bills and then some.

The average is 50k. I don't think newbies are making that. I know my friend's brother isn't.

My father was a truck driver after he retired from the military. The last year he did it he was making around $130K a year plus his retirement. He owned his own truck and contracted with a company so he had to pay for his own gas and his truck payment was around $1K a month. If a person lives on the road, like many but not most do, they may not have the need to pay for a residence of their own. $1K a month is like many people's mortgage. At this point, gas is ridiculously expensive so that's definitely cutting in to what they make quite a bit. That of course, is much of the reason prices are going up for just about everything. 300+ gallons is far from cheap at this point.

How hard of a job it is depends on the person, the type of hauling they do, and what kind of company they work for. In some cases, they may have to unload their own trucks, while at other times they just pull up to a dock and wait for their truck to be unloaded and pick up another trailer somewhere else. Prior to the job I do now, I unloaded trucks for a living... I'll never call that an easy job at all. Having to get through rush hour traffic in a huge city also suuuuucks. The clutch in most big rigs take quite a lot of pressure to push up and down, nothing like a car at all... I've been in rush hour traffic in Chicago with my dad for an hour and by the time we got to where we were going he could barely feel his leg...lol.
