As Hitler to Hindenburg, so Ahmadinejad to Khamenei. Reports are that Khamenei is on the slow road to Ghenna, and Ahmadinejad is waiting in the wings. His term is almost up, amid reports he believes himself the Twelfth Imam of Shiite lore. Although his allies are being prosecuted on orders from the leader, Ahmadinejad has the advantage of the theocracy's general political weakness and the authorities' fear that they will be held accountable by any democratic regime that may emerge from the successorship process. For this reason alone, he can be expected to prevail if he can outlast Khamenei's lifespan.
