I love different people in different ways. I've been infatuated, fancied people, loved different friends. Human variety ftw. I admit to cartoon and movie characters too.

Maritsa I think you should specify your view of what love is in the OP.

Rarely. Love is too powerful of a state to experience very often at all.

ok so let's make it 2 questions:

    1) how often and how easily are you infatuated
    2) how many people have you actually loved (romantically) so far?

I've only been in love like I am with my husband just with him, so once. But I've had less major love feelings for maybe 4 or 5 other guys before him.

Infatuation though is a regular thing for me, and always has been. I get infatuated with people all the time. Even since I've been married. So many times I couldn't count.

These are unanswerable questions for me, as i really have no idea when such feelings will strike and with whom. The frequency that this happens, intensity of feeling towards a person, and degree of attachment is something that is very situational and varies very much in my case.

Well I'm 21 now and I'd say actual love twice in my life. That whole different people and different ways thing is true for me too, but if you mean actual i want to spend the rest of my life with this person, head over heals, they are my other half kinda love. Twice.

I think real love is a rare thing. People mistake intense infatuation for love. Real love shouldn't make you irrational.
If this is true then once for me. Or at least once that didn't make me any more irrational than I already am.

    I agree.

I've been infatuated, and it sucked. It was like some crappy rollercoaster of emotions with elated highs and downright depressing lows, but I never really felt good. I felt out of control, and it made my life worse overall. I don't think love does that, I think it should make you feel stronger and better. I only want to love once, because when I know for sure it's real and mutual, I'll stay with him forever.

@original poster: I'm very rarely infatuated. It has only happened a couple times.

explain? you get infatuated with someone who says that to you? or you say that to someone with whom you're infatuated?

Doubting it to be type related, but I'm quite similar to CILi, though I often don't think much will come of a romantic relationship, so I don't pursue it and whoever it is I am "infatuated" with change often-ish. Not sure, actually, if that then counts as infatuation.

    dun dun DUN

    cili is male.

answering the question: i get infatuated a lot. i'm not sure what "falling in love" means, love seems more like something that creeps up without fanfare that you notice more after the fact. i love a handful of people, mostly family.

Yeah, it doesn't really seem possible for me. Even trying to read through these long debates on infatuation vs love doesn't convey any more information.

what about the theory that in the beggining it is all chemistry, head-over-heels, hormones and stuff and it takes time to see if it is real love? doesn't it always make you irrational in this 1st stage?

To be honest, it did happen more than 3 times in a month when I was younger, that is, like, 14-18 yrs of age. There were times I didn't even know that someone is, actually, interested in me. Growing older, I just, I don't know - minded my own business I guess.

Oh ye, for a traditional "I'm wearing the pants around here, go make me brownies" guy UDP, you're damn gender-blind.
