    Default Valkyrie Profile

Long thread to be completed over a long time period.

    Akhetamen

    My typing: IEI-LSE

Much of our fate is repetition. Our kingdom has been swallowed in that vortex more than any other.... However!! Today on this spot we will rebuild our kingdom!! We will restore it to the dazzling splendor of old!!

    [...]

How rude to speak of luxuries!! The king and the people work for each other.
Right at the start, a blast of beta Ni. Then a clarion call for Fe. Role Si rounds it out followed by a direct reference to the importance of delta Te and Si.

My death as king will elevate the noble souls of the citizens and guide them to paradise. And paradise is... this place... Amenti!! Can't you hear it?! The joyful voices of the people.
This is a very complex relationship between the EM system and the IM system. Akhetamen asserts that his demise (a beta Ti event) will create an emotional reaction that elevates the people by constellating their virtue (alpha Fe). The elevation itself is a beta Fe event. Thus, they will make the choices (beta Ni) necessary to work (TeSi) towards paradise (alpha Si).

Strangely, he appears to be rationalizing his own demise by suggesting that shared elation over his death will unite the people in common joy and remind them of their common purpose as a people.

    Arngrim

This guy was unambiguously modeled after Arnold Schwarzenegger. An LSE, obviously. His LSE-dom is very clearly demonstrated in his hard work and training. I'd have to point towards SLE as the EM type. "Battle is my greatest pleasure..." LSE-SLE "Mercenary" -- although, seems he's probably a normalizing subtype, at that. Seems like he would have taken on the old man if he did, and took over the kingdom. But he didn't, because in his mind the old man represented the law and order for which he fought. When he became a liability for the old man, he felt the value in his life slip away.

    Jayle

EIE. We can observe her passion for the knights as the driving factor behind her attempt to assimilate to them by concealing her identity. Typical ENFJ behavior when all is said and done, if maybe a little more deceptive than most. Not sure about the EM type at this time, though it might very well be SLI, given her suggested dexterity.

    Genevieve

Genevieve receives most of her development in the previous scene.

I'm leaning towards EII here. You can argue that she sees undeath as salvation from death (delta Si rendered unto others). Her obsession with beauty reflects SEI EM. She's somewhat a Lady Bathory character in that she kills people to stay young.

    Lezard

    LII-LSI

Lezard is notable for two particular talents, bioengineering and magical experiments that appear to involve high energy physics. In the second game of the series, he creates his own "pocket dimension" to live in and rule over. He uses dialectical thinking and shrewd critical analysis to make extraordinary inferences and achieve incredible intellectual leaps. He is a very tactical and deliberate thinker who seems to lack appreciation for strategy. His primary motive is absolute arbitrary power, which he obtains through application of his intellect.

    Additional comment

The relevance of the storyline to the goal of refining socionics theory is striking. The game was written by one man, who was not the character designer. My impression is that the characters are not based on real people, but on probable situations in a medieval period. ILE-IEI would be like to create a (fictional) personality typology for just this purpose. An SLI EM type (character design focus) may have contributed the visual identification accuracy based on real life experiences with fundamentally similar individuals. This is why the characters resemble real people of their dual-types.

Another striking element of the storyline is the marked divide along Rightist-Leftist lines between the antagonists and the protagonists. According to the designer's website, the central theme of the story is the divide between the mortal and the divine. The mortal live in the dangerous, death-ridden world of Midgard, while the divine live eternally in the blessed realm of Asgard. The mortal world is problem-ridden; in Asgard, the closest thing to a problem is concern over the inevitable Ragnarok, the day when the Aesir's bliss is fated to end. Between these two worlds is the world of the dead, ruled by Brahms, and the icy lands of Jotunheim, ruled by Surt of the Vanir. Both forces are, independently, striving to overthrow the Aesirian regime. Brahms fights for revenge, while Surt fights in the name of a G.W. Bushian pan-national altruism (which is peculiar, because Valkyrie Profile predates the Bush Admin... but not the New American Century manifesto to which Bush was party). In my view, the Right-Left divide aspect arises from the Aesir's indifference to human fortunes, and the necessity that the Aesir have correspondingly indifferent personalities. Accordingly with the human right-wing enslaved to them out of a sense of religious certainty, and on the other as the exploitive beneficiaries of Aesirian wrath against the rebellious Left, only Left-leaning personalities ever feel both the desire and the justification to rebel against Asgard. Yet tacitly buried in the fabric of the Aesir's devices is a healthy respect for the Left's intelligence and resolve, which requires that the Valkyrie's left-leaning personality, Lenneth, be favored as the means to the effective recruitment of these worthy souls. And yet there is another reason, in that Surt's charisma may have made into spies any social conservatives brought up to Asgard. So the Einherjar are all recruited from the Left-wing.
