Part 6 of The Ascent of Money - by Niall Ferguson
Chinese-American relationship, globalisation, black-swans, foreign debt and possible war.
It's looking like they've just about whittled down Gaddafi. As soon as he leaves (or whatever), the U.S. will begin operations against Syria, its real target.
What makes you so sure of this? If Syria is the real target, why has the US gone after Libya first?
FYI, copied below is a popular theory as to Obama's decision to abstain from taking action over Syria.
"the answer to why the (Obama) administration’s foreign policy decisions appear so crudely ad hoc may be much more straightforward: Obama has always been eager to follow a different path than George W. Bush, especially with Iran. While Bush did not hesitate to criticize Iran and argue for democracy across the Middle East, Obama has preferred instead to reach out to hostile regimes in an effort to cultivate diplomatic ties. Iran and Syria are joined at the hip — there has even been evidence that Iranian security forces are assisting Syrian troops in their crackdown against protesters. Tehran is clearly worried that it might lose one of its primary allies in the Middle East, and with it, easy access to its Hamas and Hezbollah proxies. Strong American action against Syria would enrage Iran — something Obama has already shown himself hesitant to do. "
Fun forecasting for everyone!!

Dual type (as per tcaudilllg)
Enneagram 5 (wings either 4 or 6)?
I'm constantly looking to align the real with the ideal.I've been more oriented toward being overly idealistic by expecting the real to match the ideal. My thinking side is dominent. The result is that sometimes I can be overly impersonal or self-centered in my approach, not being understanding of others in the process and simply thinking "you should do this" or "everyone should follor this rule"..."regardless of how they feel or where they're coming from"which just isn't a good attitude to have. It is a way, though, to give oneself an artificial sense of self-justification. LSE

Criminal (Cartel & Gang) Insurgencies in Mexico and the Americas:What you need to know, not what you want to hear
One issue: I think cycles of countermoves are inherent to conflict and are only eliminated when the enemy is defeated. Saying a problem with a strategy is that there are cycles of countermoves is to say the problem with a strategy is that you have a enemy.

I'm having great fun reading about the controversy mentioned in the article, as well as the the related controversies over sociobiology and group selection.
