Interesting. I had guessed Ulysses Grant was SLI based on photos alone. I haven't researched him yet, though. Harding to me has a different feel. He seems stern and austere and rather stiff (I've got a bunch of his pics). I don't rule out Depp (still leaning towards SEI though) or Stallone (would think of other types first). That's my initial superficial response.

    Additional SLI hypotheses of mine:
    (pics at http://www.socionics.us/celebrities/sli.shtml)
    Grace Kelly
    Angelina Jolie
    Gerard Depardieu (French actor)
    Harrison Ford
    Jeff Daniels

Unfortunately (actually, fortunately!), I'm leaving town for 5 days and will not be around to discuss this topic more.[

That's another point for the validity of VI, my typing of Grant was based exclusively on what I know of his life.

Well, not quite, of course, since different people use totally different VI principles, as is evidenced in this forum. But if it happens systematically...

What makes you think ISTp for Commodus rather than ESTp?
"To become is just like falling asleep. You never know exactly when it happens, the transition, the magic, and you think, if you could only recall that exact moment of crossing the line then you would understand everything; you would see it all"

"Angels dancing on the head of a pin dissolve into nothingness at the bedside of a dying child."

I have discussed this with others here:

    http://the16types.info/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3989

I think ESTp is possible but I find ISTp overall a better match.

EDIT: there is some good contemporary evidence about Commodus, including by the historian Dio Cassious, a Roman Senator and an eyewitness. The only thing that strikes me as being more ESTp than ISTp in Commodus are his forays into megalomania, such as dressing up as Hercules and giving his own names to the months of the year. However, apart from his activities in sports, he was overall a not very active person. The difference is clear when comparing him to Caracalla, to me the most obvious ESTp emperor of all.

Yet, he does seem more ESTp when compared to Tiberius, a much clearer ISTp IMO.

It is possible - and it has been argued - that those manifestations of megalomania were done not on Commodus's own initiative but on that of sycophants, and he just agreed to it, which would make sense for someone with PoLR -- but I agree that one can't make a definitive case.

I thought of one more guy who could be a possible ISTp.

    Maurice Ravel

Could indeed be. Good call. He's got the calm, blank SLI look, and I don't see anything in his bio (upon a superficial reading) that would contradict it.

Not a very good one. Rick's point about his looking stiff and therefore rational is taken. From what I know of his life, he seemed Delta and to have very weak , besides irrational. But perhaps he was ESTj.

I just read his Wikipedia bio and looked at his pictures again. I've got another idle version -- ESE. He seemed to have a need for emotional contact with people (he insisted on answering all letters to the president himself and liked to travel and give public speeches). In his youth he managed a newspaper. Another clue is the phrase, "Harding's affable personality balanced his wife's no-nonsense approach to life." Another one is "As an influential newspaper publisher with a flair for public speaking."

Yeah but the problem with ESE is that he seemed poor in reading people's fake emotions and so surrounded himself by crooks; he himself was clean I think. I don't think that would happen to a dominant.

That, his loyalty to (unfortunately fake) friends, and even the stuff about answering letters, suggest quadra values to me. Perhaps ESTj is the best answer.

Were the "friends" crooks in the sense of being emotional traitors (i.e. divulging personal secrets and betraying friendship), or were they business schemers who were stealing money and the like? The first case would suggest weak ethics, the second -- weak logic. People are often blind to manipulation and breaking of accepted norms in their weak areas.

The second case; in fact, there is a close parallel to Grant. Which is perhaps what made me think of ISTp.

I'm not sure about the weak logic bit; I still see Harding as having over ie Gamma or Delta. However, an interesting thought -- perhaps he was ISFj. Anyway I don't really know that much about his life; I have to get deeper into him.

I saw a movie with Adam Sandler and he struck me as a clear-cut ISTp. He does have an ISXp look IMO, what do you think?

Harding and Reynolds look more like ISTJs...(based on VI only). Their facial features are too broad and too strong ...much like a lot of ISTJs...

    Depp...I simply don't think he's an introvert...IMO, he's more of an ESxx

I wasn't completely sure about Reynolds either (and I wasn't typing him only by VI). I was thinking xSTp. I can see ISTj, but I think ESTp could work better.

hey winterpark, since you're making a hypothesis on an estp (reynolds), would you take a look at my post in "what's my type" under title"VI-ville a starnge adventure"? there was a previous hypothesis that the pic i posted is that of an estp....i barely know these folks
