Usually the people I think of as penny pinchers are gammas, and I know an LIE who said the first thing pretty much word-for-word - but the second part of your description sounds like Ne-ego.

Sounds like Ej types, rather Fe/j. Most EXEs I know make "our issue" out of "your issue" much like your examples . They also enjoy presents (give and especially take) and make allusions to them.
Apart for SLE and often IEI, IME Irrationals are rather stingy in day-to-day matters - esp XLIs.

Ha, my housemate's boyfriend (LIE) fits this description perfectly. She is SLE and always wants to go out and socialise and "have a good time" and he never wants to pay for dinner out, movies, club entry fees, etc and it frustrates her so much because she has to drag his grumbling ass everywhere. I actually really like him and we get along well, but imagine this habit would be really annoying in a relationship. He says his life goal is to work hard and save up lots of money and then buy a house and ...roll around in all his money. (Not really, but this is what I imagine.)

I'm really careful with money, too, but more in the sense that I always want to know in my head how much I have, and I always go for the off-brands and I'm constantly bargain hunting.

    Sounds like an SEE.

    EDIT

Or just generally a contemptible individual. The two often get mixed up in my head.

That seems excessive. I'm rather stingy myself, but unless you're a student with no income, it's hard to end up bankrupt just because you dine out or go clubbing (unless you're dining at expensive restaurants, or exclusive clubs). I'm more likely to be stingy about clothes (I rarely buy myself new clothes, unless old ones are completely worn out), gas/car (I almost only use public transport), bills, etc. etc.

Not to be a downer, but wouldn't this have more to do with upbringing and economic status then type?

I am a bit Scroodgy but I think I'm very generous because I calculate saving for generosity in my budget.

I'm not a penny pincher, but I think I'm smart with money.

I like dining out regularly and buying nice clothes every few months. I don't have problems spending money on entertainment, like games and movies. I donate to charity. For big purchases, though, I try very hard to get a good deal and I haggle.

I put away more than is probably necessary in retirement. Like, I contribute as much as my company will match, and then I put the max allowed in a Roth IRA in addition.

My ILE brother is really, really bad with money. He makes quite a bit more money than me, yet he is in thousands of dollars of credit card debt. He buys all sorts of electronics, kitchen appliances... pays way too much on big purchases. For example, despite being in all this debt, he just paid for a new La-Z-Boy couch, recliner, and table set without really needing them in the first place. It's kind of sad, really.

I think I know who this thread is about, so I'm not going to comment much.

Sucks though, for whoever *may* have gotten a new job recently, for their board to go up. Especially when they *may* already be working incredibly hard, in college.

Actually I *may* feel very horrible about that... Although somewhat understandable, if you're able to afford the sacrifice/practical commitment, to 'hold your own', so to speak, but it's not like someone is doing nothing... she's in college. =\ Working her tail off, might I add. And she needs all the time/energy/and SUPPORT she can get... not being hammered with one other thing.

And I think, in your empathy in your original post, Hayley, you agree with me... just try to be there for her as much as possible I guess, please.

*edit* Just saw you said "charge you" board, not "change your" board. So hopefully the amount per week is still the same...

Yeah, I agree that it's way too excessive in the case of the LIE that I know. But for the record, he is a student with a low income, so I guess in this sense it's a bit more understandable.

Yeah, I think this is definitely a factor. My family always had a tight budget and counted pennies, and I know that this influenced the way I am now.

I save a fourth of all my paychecks for "long term expenses" (insurance, car maintenance and registration, bills, big purchases etc.) and the rest is all discretionary income, most of which goes for food and hobbies.

This arrangement works pretty well, I think.

@bolt I dont think this is likely to be EXFj at all. We are extravagant with money usually, even though i tend not to spend alot, i dont spend carefully or in a very calculated manner when I do. Sounds more like LSI.

You are right. The OP was confusing to me because on one hand they seem to be spenders, on the other they're stingy. Anyway my post was focused on Ej's and discussing the part of interest in others' financial status and "attentions" from time to time .

In the big picture I rather see ETj. In a nutshell this is how I see LXE's, always prospecting, spending money carefully but don't deal with half-measures.
