    Default Alex Trebek

Watching Jeopardy I got to thinking about Trebek's type. My tentative conclusion is EIE. He has a rather dramatic way of speaking and reminds me of Charlie Rose (also EIE). Thoughts?

If you think anything about Alex Trebek or Charlie Rose is 'dramatic', you're gonna be really surprised once you meet a real ENFj, haha.

    lol, TRUTH

Also, I think the common typing of Trabek is LSI, which seems to work.

Come on guys, you're killing me with your poor ablilities in seeing functions expressed in people. I mean really, most of you on here have post counts in the thousands and you can't reason well enough to realize that he demonstrates strong blocked with . He is a subtype so maybe that's where you get some of your confusion. I mean, just watching him for a few seconds, you can clearly see that he has full command of his senses, he doesn't display any space cadet qualities that a type would. He is very much in command of his environment. You will notice with LII's that their polr makes them have a poor sense of stance so to speak, this becomes very obvious if you ever witness one doing any sort of aerobic exercise. I'm just dissapointed that some of you have been around awhile, and can't notice basic things such as these, that's all.

He actually reminds me a bit of someone I've typed EIE. But he's no EIE, which makes me think LSI. Plus, plenty of Fe is on display, even if his job is to act serious. And wook at his eyes! He just looks like LSI--don't see any other obvious possibility here.

He seems Alpha NT to me. He reminds me of an English teacher I had in school. I really don't see this Se some people are talking about. There's no "readiness to resist" in his eyes, only intellectual curiosity. Even Golden's quotes sound Alpha NT:

"Don't minimize the importance of luck in determining life's course."
One characteristic feature of Ne types is a focus on chance and luck. Se types tend to focus more the role of will and determination.

"I'm curious about everything. Even subjects that don't interest me."
It's difficult for me to imagine a quote that screams "Ne" more strongly than this one.

"If you can't be in awe of Mother Nature, there's something wrong with you."
Not that Betas can't enjoy nature, but typically it's the Si-valuers who express this affinity more strongly.

I'm just not sure if he's N-ILE, or some kind of LII.

    He's an Alpha NT.

There is nothing in Trebec's speech, bearing, or anything that points to the beta values of Se and Ni.

Contrarily, his use of Ne is very apparent. His particular sort of low-key manner is indicative of Si valuing.

He always struck me as INTj. Super Ij, nothing about him strikes me as particularly Se, not INFj. Kinda reminds me of Brent Spiner, I think.

    EDIT: An interview:

I notice he does that creepy shifty-eyes thing I've observed in lots of Se egos. Hmm...

    DOUBLE EDIT: Another interview:

Again with the creepy shifty-eyes. Jesus christ that's weird hahaha
Se ego seems more and more likely now. Seems like a pretty congenial guy in any case.

Awwwwww. Se eyes in a guy are so cool to me. Make me feel like I'm really being seen.

FWIW, he continues to remind me of a man I once worked with who I think is EIE. But the eyes tell a different story, and if you listen to an interview, Alex Trebek's manner of expressing himself is far more measured and deliberate. The EIE also works in media at a fairly high level and, when interviewed, tends to feel improvisational and searching, and his expression comes in waves. Trebek--though of course he's a highly trained speaker--has an almost machine-like pace even when he's supposedly extemporizing.

Hey, that neck thing is right 50% of the time. Better than the "all men are LSE and all women are SEE" typing method she usually uses.

    Give me a break.

Funny to see people's reactions. I bet most people just want to accept Rick's typing so they don't have to think about it. (Not to say it isn't right.) EIE is kind of a half-baked idea, but I'll watch some videos later. I'm quite sure about Charlie Rose, on the other hand. He uses and all the time, it's obvious.

    Argh.

Alex Trebek is definitely IXTj, I was leaning INTj, but that was sort of a surface opinion, and several people I respect are leaning ISTj over INTj... so I dunno. I have no idea where anybody is getting Fe-ego for him from.

Charlie Rose is ILI. He is in NO WAY an Fe-ego. The capacity to be good on camera and hold a conversation does not make one an Fe ego.
Not a rule, just a trend.

IEI. Probably Fe subtype. Pretty sure I'm E4, sexual instinctual type, fairly confident that I'm a 3 wing now, so: IEI-Fe E4w3 sx/so. Considering 3w4 now, but pretty sure that 4 fits the best.

    Yes 'a ma'am that's pretty music...

I am grateful for the mystery of the soul, because without it, there could be no contemplation, except of the mysteries of divinity, which are far more dangerous to get wrong.

    Check out this interview:

The way he speaks is so uber-expressive, with lots of emphasis. The first question asks him how he feels about something (requiring the use of ethics) and he responds "I LOVE the SNL sketches featuring Will Ferrell, in fact I was extremely disappointed when he left SNL." "The Sean Connery character that Darrell Hammond portrays so beautifully on SNL, I love it."

What kind of LSI uses that kind of language? I might even consider ESE over EIE.

tldr: quotations don't prove anything lol. Although the second one is very odd for an LSI; IME usually types are very hesitant to attribute anything to luck.

You don't know LSIs who use that kind of language? That seems very normal for LSIs to me. And he's gushing about an EIE and another LSI.

Actually, I havent' put that much thought into Will Ferrell's or Sean Connery's types.

No, it seems very strange, considering it's a very strong example of usage. I would expect a leading type to be a lot less expressive and less complimentary. Perhaps someone could point out his use of ? All I see is a lot of .

I agree with you in that I'd go with EII before LSI.

Still, I think INTj is the best option, given what I know of him.

I don't detect any Se at all from Trebec. He seems like a kindly, even-keeled guy, which is usually how Alphas come across to me. (I can imagine Jeopardy being a less 'gentlemanly' affair if hosted by an LSI. Less gentle, 'folksy' ribbing--that's for sure.)

The more I think of it: Jeopardy is, essentially, an Alpha game--based on Ne speculation and Ti classification. (Granted, that's Jeopardy and not Trebec himself.) Still, I think it says a lot that he's been hosting the game show for decades.

He seems to be a man of steady habits. The most controversial thing he's done during his decades-long tenure at Jeopardy has been to shave his moustache

He's ESE type; he plays Te role very well with being the host of a show that likes to display a lot of information and his emotionality, off camera, is typical of very grumpy ESE's.
