In my own words I like to think of extroverted functions kind of like the part of surface facing outward to the environment, and introverted functions the part of surface facing inward.

inward of course representing ones inner self, subjectivity

outward of course representing the environment a person is part of, objectivity

Ni = the most probable future to the current universe we are living; taking the future for granted and accepting it while trying to benefit from it

Ni = approximation of the future, understanding the indirect effects which will shape it, recognition of the crucial factors.
