What do these signs mean—, , etc.? Why cannot socionists use symbols Ne, Ni etc. as in MBTI? Just because they have somewhat different meaning. Socionics and MBTI, each in its own way, have slightly modified the original Jung's description of his 8 psychological types. For this reason, (Ne) is not exactly the same as Ne in MBTI.
Just one example: in MBTI, Se (extraverted sensing) is associated with life pleasures, excitement etc. By contrast, the socionic function (extraverted sensing) is first and foremost associated with control and expansion of personal space (which sometimes can manifest in excessive aagression, but often also manifests in a capability of managing lots of people and things).
For this reason, we consider comparison between MBTI types and socionic types by functions to be rather useless than useful.

My mother is ESI
My mom is: ISTj ((not sure what that is here))
I am: ESFj
My mom and I get along "most" of the time - but she often calls me manipulative, etc. . .
She doesn't like it when I ask her what she wants me to do specifically and then when she tells me, simply agree and go about doing them -- she thinks I'm too passive. . . but when I do speak up then she calls me rebellious. . .
My mom is a no-win scenario.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing anything right. . .
Is this often the case between ESFj's and ISTj's??
Simply curious as to how these relationships usually function -- I don't think I get along with any ISTj's that I know. . .
ISTj is ESFj's semi-dual. They tend to be attracted to each other, but never get along properly because their approach to daily life is very different (in your case, action/Se vs relaxation/Si).
If she considers you rebellious she could be ISFj though (which yields an even worse relationship). Just a thought...

lol at the poll
My moms ILE(Ti) if nobody read about it already
yeah, it's kind of vauge but I was wondering about that too. I'm more inclined to think an LSI would find Ne, and to a point Fi, as manipulative. Maybe if you describe your mom, Yellow, a bit more it might help us to get a better understanding of your intertype

My mom:
VERY introverted -- hardly ever wants to go out to a party, doesn't think that any of us kids need to go out either. Thinks it's often times a waste in gas and we only need to see our friends once or twice a year to keep up with them. . .
She likes to say she used to be an extrovert -- but I really don't believe her.
She's not really into cooking -- but the house has to be spotless all the time!
She can get very stressed and will then yell at us kids for the smallest thing; one of my siblings bangs the door behind them accidentally because the wind caught it. . .
She considers goals, schedules, a clean house, and a moral life as probably the most important stuff ever.
She is ALWAYS thinking about the future.
And that's about all I can think of off the top of my head -- feel free to ask more questions.
Fi-ENFp and Si-ISFp respectively
mom ESI. Very typical quasi-identical relationship.

my dad's (LSI) a fundamentalist Christian and so he's very into morality, though through a very filter
.....
none of this sounds like an Si dominant+Ni devaluer IMU...

It's the "clean house" thing that gives me pause. Would an Si-devaluer care?

If they're Normalizing subtypes they could (if you follow the DCNH that is...), than it becomes about needing things to be organized rather than cleaning for the sake of fulfilling

So, your theory is that her mom is an ILI-Fi? That actually makes sense (it makes more sense than SLI come to think of it -- if her mom were SLI she'd be her mom's supervisor, clearly not the case).
