Idk, but it reminded how cool metal is.
The main difference is the structure. Nu metal is pretty "simple" because it usually follows the same kind of rhythm through the song and the instruments act like one line.
Djent was born out of Meshuggah, a Swedish band which used complex song structures and 8-7 stringed guitars for the deep tone. This genre focuses on [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyrhythm"]polyrhythms[/ame] which imo makes it very interesting to listen to. So the main point really is the rhythm and not the sound of each note and how they go together.
