    Default Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods

Any ideas as to the types of these 2 american golf players?

    Phil Mickelson

    On the right

    Tiger Woods

    My thoughts are:
    Tiger Woods - ISTp
    Phil Mickelson - ISFp

Thanks Kraus, from what I know of him, INFp does seem to tiger woods quite well. Hmm, I need more practice on my V.I hehe.

For some reason I got the initial impression of Mickelson being INTJ, though I'm not 100% sure that's right so don't hold me to it right now.

Also, Tiger looks a lot like Mariano Rivera.

    Woods: INFp

    Not even close.

EDIT/// and blah, Mickelson looks like the twin of my 9th grade Computer Technology teacher. Too bad I couldn't know that guys type from back then, but considering that he taught computers, and didn't seem very energetic or expressive, it is possible he was INTJ as well. Maybe. But this is all speculation.

Rocky, some day, I'm going to buy you a poster to put on the wall above your computer screen that says "Yeah, it was sarcasm," just in case you're ever not sure.

Iv'e done a little searching and on braintypes the weekly typing pages have phil in them.

    http://www.braintypes.com/newsworthy/newsworthy13.htm

It says here phil is ENTj

This means I officially suck at V.I so please ignore any previous and future V.I attempts I make

Phil is a really nice guy, nice to everyone always, and always thanks his fans and never gets annoyed with anyone. ENTj didnt come to mind although they can sometimes be like this, but I guess unless you know people personally its hard to say what their personality is really like as you get only a narrow insight whilst watching sports and interviews etc. In anycase, professional sports players usually live un-ordinary lives and so are often probably not typical as far as types go.

What makes me wonder though is if tiger woods is INFp, they are language skilled, not fine or gross motor skilled, so how has he become so good at a tactile sport, I would have thought it must have been real difficult, almost impossible for him to reach the high level he has in the sport.

@flower: its interesting that they labeled him as ENTJ. I thought INTJ because he seemed to fit the movements, and because I suspected he was more on the Introverted side. But ENTJs might not always have beaming energy.

And I noticed that they posted this on their site the same day you posted this but I didn't look, lol.

Golf is a personal favorite of this author. Why? One big reason is because a variety of Brain Types are represented. Unlike other sports where 2-3 three Types generally dominate, the PGA Tour is rife with inborn wirings with most having a sporting chance to win it all.

The Masters this year was a classic example. In contention were men of all genetic backgrounds. There was, of course, Phil Mickleson, the amiable poster-child FCIL/ENTJ who ended up winning it all by two strokes (-7). Coming in second (-5) was Tony Clark, the South African messy-haired FCIR/ENTP who earned the cheers of the crowd on the 18th by sinking a bunker shot. Tied for third at -4 were a plethora of players. There was Jose Maria Olazabal, the FEIR/ESTP Spaniard. Retief Goosen, the easy-going South African BEAR/ISFP who appears, as one commentator noted, ready to fall asleep at a moments notice. Then, of course, is BCAR/INFP Tiger Woods, who missed two critical (and relatively short) eagle putts that could have put him in serious contention. We finally come to a repeated Brain Type with Chad Campbell, another FCIR/ENTP, who led the tournament for a time before falling back a few strokes. Then there’s the heartbreak performance of Fred Couples, the FEIR/ESTP, who played so well throughout the tournament, only to miss some crucial putts during the last few holes to fall back. Also not far behind were Vijay Singh (BCAR/INFP) and Mike Weir (FCIR/ENTP).

Golf, especially below but also at the PGA level, is fair game for most Brain Types willing to practice day in and day out to hone their inborn mental, physical, and spatial skills. Whether you’re right-brained dominant, left-brained, Introverted or Extraverted, one never knows whether he might become the next Tom Kite (BCIL/INTJ) or Jack Nicklaus (BEIL/ISTJ).

As an aside, many of you know that BTI Founder and Director Jonathan Niednagel has had to closely watch the regular and senior's PGA Tours for many years now while assisting a number them with their golf games. After Brain Typing hundreds of Tour players over the past few decades, not only has Jon never found certain Brain Types as pro golfers at these high levels, but also he's never found the following designs among the better Tour players: ISFJ, ESFJ, INFJ, and INTP. For those familiar with the basic intricacies of BT, it shouldn't be hard to ascertain why (either mentally or physically) these innate designs have the greatest difficulty at the highest levels of golfing competition.

Thanks rocky. Movement is not something I know anything about, but you seem to have a good grasp of the concepts. Given your good guess, it makes me curious

    *sigh*

I have long said that no one seems to understand what Brain Types actually tries to do. Maybe they don't do a good job of explaining it. But it still frustrates me.

It's not a matter of "good" and "bad".

Now... this is the part where people start to tell me I'm crazy... think of each type as having a sort of different "skeleton". Things such as bone structure and muscle movements differ in people. You can start to notice how people fall within different groups... SF, ST, NF, NT... then, J/P... and, E/I. E/I is probably the hardest to tell just from the movements though.

This is something that it seems no one will accept or try to look for themselves.

EDIT/// I don't know why people would be so scared of this since most of you use VI anyways. The only differences is that straight up VI is completely subjective, intricate, and not always accurate.

I don't doubt it for a minute, and you seem to type more reliably than most around here, probably beacuse you have this knowledge that others dont.

In many of the type profiles there is some mention of how that type tends to walk or something else to do with movement, so movement has certainly been acknowledged as being influenced by type for a long time. I think that generally there isnt much detailed information out there about it, and so when people learn about socionics its not something that people become very familiar with.

Maybe the problem is that it is hard to write detailed information about something that you can only observe.

i noticed some INFps are into baseball (there was this guy some months ago which was into sports and posted some interesting stuff) and Woods is not bad at playing golf, yeah. so that might has something to do with the movements? xNFps being flexible?

    Exactly.

For example, if they were to twist their arm backwards, you would notice how far their shoulder could rotate and stretch.

Brain Types considers the NFPs the most acrobatic or flexible types.

I'm interested in Mickelson's type... And Woods'... What do you think, all of you?

Absence of Fe noted for Mickelson.

I'm pretty sure that Tiger Woods is ESI.

Phil I've thought about before but I can't really pin him on a type.

I do. Especially basketball, which I play every week.

I find golf boring... Its the sort of thing they make you do when you're about to die. You know. "You're 70. Time to play golf."

Mickelson is Delta, I'm pretty sure.

The only Delta that I see even remotely possible is ENFp. But fwiw, I don't really think Delta is a good fit for Phil, not ESTj, INFj or ISTp anyway.

I think Alpha/Delta is probably the right range, but I think Alpha is more likely.

I would say ESTj, based on the interviews I've seen... ESFj/ISFp are the alpha types I'd consider, but I don't see any Fe.

tereg, do you still think you're ENFp?

I think I'm warming up to Phil/ESTj being possible. I think it's plausible.

At first just watching him around the golf course or give on the spot interviews or how he sort of handled big pressure situations, it didn't make a lot of sense that an ESTj would handle and carry himself like Phil carries himself. But, I can kind of see what you're saying though. I can kind of see it.
