Jung is awesome. I think "internal images" is a great descriptor for what Ni is concerned with (insofar as the internal images are both representations---i.e., signs---and part of how we understand the world. I think that says something important about what Ni is interested in). I also love the concept of the "shadow of the opposite" which turns into complementary functions in socionics. And I do think unhealthy Ni-egos may go overboard on Se (I'm actually like this to a degree, evaluating situations in terms of power dynamics unnecessarily) and I definitely see where unhealthy Se-egos go overboard on the Ni (the classic example is Turnus right before Aeneas is about to kill him, which is, incidentally, 12x more interesting than anything Aeneas does the whole epic.)
