    Default IEIs/INFps and making money

Greetins my fellow IEIs. I am poor and have no motivation at all to get a job. Jobs do not interest me. I see nothing to be gained by getting one. I can see myself, in the future, living in a very shitty place if I don't get some motivation. Infact, I was the same way in school - never doing any homework, sleeping through all classes, skipping every class I could. I know some of this is normal, but for me it is an overwhelming urge to slack off. If there is a way not to do work, then I will follow that path. So my question to you IEIs is what do you do to make money? Do you have difficulty caring enough about making money or working? Or are you like me, and would rather be in a coma than go to work.
I think this is related to Te polr and I need to get control of this.. before I am forced to bunk in with an XNFj / ESTj couple and their four neurotic dogs, which will mean despair for the next era of my life.

I know an INFp who is a teacher. She'd complain about the work, but really loved it because the kids respected her. I think it made her feel important.

Another is a computer programmer and seems to like it as it pays really well.

Another had an engineering background, but ended up in a marketing type company doing statistics stuff (kinda Ni/Ti focused). Liked it and clearly made him feel important.

Another is a social worker, seems to enjoy it. And a psychologist (got annoyed w/ hearing problems all the type but shifted to a slightly more positive type of job).

I guess I know a lot of INFPs...

I'd ask yourself where the laziness is really coming from. Because I'd bet you have a lot of motivation in there, but you have to clarify what you want. Why would you want a job? Money, respect, people interaction, etc? Because no one wants to do boring work they don't want to do.
    Hi! I'm an ENFP. :-)

that is the problem - there is nothing I care about to motivate me to get a job. Hmm. I will think more about this.

i want money and lots of it but i'll either have to find a rich adorable dual or work very hard on my career/studies.to say that both are difficult would be an understatement because i am not social, i don't know what i want to do in my life and i have confidence issues.

If there are many people at work (here uni) i hate it because my chakras get blocked by their presence.that happens because i can't just sit there and play Ms Extreme Introvert ,so i push myself to somehow interact with others.
I guess people bother me more than the work itself.even professors.this thread will hardly reach 2 pages and will die a slow death.

There are two ways I motivate myself to do things I don't care about

    1) attach it to something I do care about, and
    2) force myself to have a sort of complex about it, wherein I convince myself that some vague horrible negative thing is going to happen if I fail to do this thing.

The latter is how I forced myself to be good at school in high school. I think my motivation was that I wouldn't get into the college I wanted to otherwise, and so I had to convince myself that it would be AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL if I didn't get into the college I wanted, because getting into the right college was somehow going to fix all my problems (it didn't but, it was a good choice to work hard enough to go where I wanted). Whereas now I don't have some vague lurking evil so I can barely motivate myself to finish my papers on time, and certainly not to start them before several hours before they're due.

So... develop a psychological complex! Or get an SLE to tell you to do it. Or not an SLE. It's astounding to me how much easier it gets to do something hard, or something that I'm scared to do or whatever, just because someone tells me to.

Um, but seriously, you have to find something you actually care about, and then find a way to make that happen. The thing about IEIs that that we're usually obscenely talented in one way or another (I think it's from spending all that time in our heads), and there's usually a way to put that talent to use. So I'd say, go out, get the best job you can (paying the most per hour or whatever), and then gradually find your way to something you actually care about. Teaching is a good option (although I'd much rather teach high school than anything else), so is something that works with words---my backup plan is to be a writer for some organization, marketing, working with the press, television, etc. The other thing is you should develop as many skills as possible. You can sort of develop skills by playing around and lo and behold, suddenly you have a possible source of income. Like, if you're frequently around someone that has a particular skill set, I dunno, play around with it.

The other thing is that it's always great for an IEI to do sort of people-related work, if you can stomach using your personal charm for financial gain. So service industries are always good for us: waiter-ing, working in a clothing store, etc.
Not a rule, just a trend.

IEI. Probably Fe subtype. Pretty sure I'm E4, sexual instinctual type, fairly confident that I'm a 3 wing now, so: IEI-Fe E4w3 sx/so. Considering 3w4 now, but pretty sure that 4 fits the best.

    Yes 'a ma'am that's pretty music...

I am grateful for the mystery of the soul, because without it, there could be no contemplation, except of the mysteries of divinity, which are far more dangerous to get wrong.

Good advice. Sometimes I just have to emotionally shut down and stop being nice to anybody and really sort of ignore everything but the work. Like, do it as a zombie.

That's not a good solution because it relies on another person too much.
I think zombie mode is most peoples answer. I have alot of difficulty dealing with zombie mode... Usually what I do is I find a way to fuck things up so that people come out of zombie mode. But then I have to suffer the consequences of what I just did, and usually that ends with me being fired or getting suspended, or something like that.
There is probably a way to get things out of zombie mode without fucking things up. It probably involves connecting with people on a real level. I will have to experiment with that..

Stop posting on this forum and get a part-time job. Get out in the real world. It's fun. Honestly, Ixxps like you just... half annoy and half confuse the shit out of me.

How can you NOT have motivation? Is there nothing you have a passion about, nothing you enjoy so much you can do it for the rest of your life? For me, it's psychology. I was determined since 10th grade about it and here I am going into 3rd year university as a psych specialist with experience working in a hospital already. Not to boast or anything =P

I actually do find it weird how common it is that people are so scattered and directionless. I think I'm actually an anomaly because of how early on I pinpointed and focused on one thing. So yeah, my advice is really just to find yourself and what you LOVE and then do it. And shut up!!!

No. Good advice. That's what your dual is for. You're not going to do it yourself, are you ? Just do it or get a SLE, those are the only options.

Interesting, I’ve never really had this problem. I mean honestly, I don’t know what I’d do all day if I didn’t at least work or have money. Then again, I’ve never been one to really sit around? Plus, If I didn’t have shit to do I’d fall into depression & probably end up rolling over dead in a ditch.

Crazedrat, It sounds like you’re lack of motivation could be linked to a number of things, like depression, anxiety, low self image, or even an incredibly strong need for some serious Se in your life. Join a gym. Go fuck an SLE.

Btw, do you have any hobbies? Computers maybe? Get a job at Best Buy or something?

Maybe this excerpt from a book will help you:

A third symptomatic disturbance relevant here is a general inertia. Patients suffering from it sometimes accuse themselves of being lazy, but actually they cannot be lazy and enjoy it. They may have a conscious aversion to effort of any kind, and may rationalize it by saying that it is quite enough if they have the ideas and that it is up to others to carry out the "details"— that is, do the work. The aversion to effort may also appear as a fear that effort would be injurious to them. This fear is understandable in view of the fact that they know they tire easily; and it may be enhanced by the advice of physicians who take the exhaustion at its face value.
Neurotic inertia is a paralysis of initiative and action. Generally speaking, it is the result of a strong alienation from self and a lack of goal-direction. Long experience of strained and unsatisfactory effort leaves the neurotic with a fairly pervasive listlessness—although periods of hectic activity sometimes intervene.

The Best Buy guys are always really hot. And they're always like how can I help you whenever you ask about USB cords and such. I bet crazedrat would be so sexy and oblivious at Best Buy with his own little nametag. He could tell people about the expansion packs for Starcraft in great detail.

Why don't you try just focusing on having monye and being able to spend it and having more potential to use. It's so much EASIER with more money. You can be slack. You can be careless. Or you can control your money.

Either/or. It just gives more freedom. It's much harder being poor. Once you think of it like that a job is just something to give you money. And you don't have to care about all the little things so much.

stryfe is a bitch. one thing to not focus on, is how deadening and unfullfilling most jobs are, when viewed in terms of your personal drives (which I'm guessing wouldn't be... expressed in most jobs), and realize that you still have to live each day, with your freedom contingent on the energy you put forth.

laziness is a bigger issue than Te polr. if you're used to being able to perform fine without effort, a 9-5 job will seem unnecessary, in a way.

Te polr people are not lazy

If Te suggests that you must follow a certain method to do things then simply that Te PoLR get stressed out when they have to stick to a method. They would prefer a timeline based on feelings not on objective working standards.

Simply, they do not want to be held to a rigid routine in contrast to me, I would do better if things are planned out and orderly flow is established before a task is started.

They would fair well in a flexible environment, this is why most are in acting/production/arts.

I agree. Ni has this uncanny way of seeing or predicting flow of events in time...
More specifically, they can envision scenerios and watch for opportunities for them to happen.
