I used to write but haven't in like 8 or 9 years. When I wrote, it had to sound good and it had to make sense. I had this internal gauge of whether something sounded right or not. I was a pretty good writer for my age.
I could write poetry. I also could build a lightsaber if I had some plutonium. Either way it's not getting done.
I do like good poetry that flows, and has lots of symbolism. You know where it has many meanings you can interrupt.

I can't stand poetry much these days. I like Short, Haiku type stuff. But the longwinded stuff... it's too indirect for me, and there are so many possibilities that it's just a waste of time for me. It's unappealing and flowery.

Hmm. I like poems(of course if it about me it would make it my day). But say if I have to make my own poem of a certain topic. I like to take some words out from different poems. And combine them together. It fun to make poems even if it isn't good. I don't care what style it is long it about medium or short and I don't have to do poems for school work(or translate it).

i like haiku-like stuff too, like anything wittgenstein writes. that shit makes me cry.
i wrote a poem in spanish once. it was about tess of the d'urbervilles. The teacher made me read it in front of the class, and i felt like a "douche". anyway i dont write poems now......
ahem... try more complex forms before criticizing it. A lot of it is not flowery at all. Ive read some that is extremely dark. Ive read some that tell extremely visual stories. Ive read some that deal with times in history... etc etc etc. Poetry is highly variable and just a tool to the artist so please do not hallmark-stereotype it. Also, haiku may be short but it can be extremely abstract and cryptic. Rate of speed of reading a haiku does not translate into rate of speed of understanding the meaning(s).
It appears that you either misunderstood what I said, or I wasn't clear enough. Everything you said confirms why I don't like most poetry, though I do like Haiku.

Well I am back. How's everyone? Don't have as much time now, but glad to see some of the old gang are still here.

btw I understood what you originally meant UDP but I still feel that it is a rather weak stance.
Part of the issue I have is probably due to instance that my Chemistry Text book (@ $140) is much more like long-winded poetry than it should be. I have never, ever had a science book put me to sleep in the way that this one does. It is so.... superflous at times.

Yeah I have. Just because you can't see why someone wouldn't like poetry other than lack of an "honest" effort to appreciate it doesn't mean it can't be authentically unappealling to others.

I find that the grand ironny is that while poetry may seem indirect and cryptic, that strict logic is even more difficult to decipher except to a select population that are just going to argue about it and not agree
