Are you hasty to take initiative with people? For example, when showing something to someone at his/her computer, to grab the mouse and begin do things pretty confidently?

I start by giving the other person a chance to try it themselves while verbally explaining to them what do (e.g. you move the cursor over here and click there). If someone is still having trouble, I don't have a problem with grabbing the mouse and physically showing them rather than just talk about it. I ask the other if its okay if I take the mouse and show them because I think it's rude to just grab the mouse away from them. My style is to try to let the other do it themselves (although several are more than happy to let me take over).

There's been a few times when helping others on the computer has tried my patience. I'm a librarian and a large part of my job involves helping others with computer stuff. There is still a sizeable portion of people out there who have difficultly with basic computer skills like using the keyboard and mouse and navigating a screen. I like to see the people be able to do things themselves because that's how you learn and get good is by practice. But some of these people are so slow in doing it and lack the fundamental knowledge that I have put in a good deal of effort to restrain myself to just take over and do everything for them. If you do everything for them, they never learn it themselves and they expect that you'll always do that for them. Of course, there are several people that don't want to learn it themselves and have the expectation that you'll do it for them.
