Here's a study. There are a lot of articles like it, but this is the one I could find the quickest. I think it illustrates part of what's at work for LII 3s. It hits very close to home, you know?

They start exhibiting 3ish behavior. It teaches them that being smart is praiseworthy, so the kids try extra hard to look smart, even if they aren't. Being smart becomes part of their self image.
