the way it talks about time flowing from the past to the present, and looking ahead and finding meaning... I thought it was very Ni.

I do, within the realm of reading "Most of what life contains" to be all the stuff that happened that wasn't "planned" & all the stuff that happened that went differently than planned, things you might want to embrace, or things you wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole. Maybe things that are wishy-washy, don't mean much to you. These are included in my non-exhaustive list of what this line means: "Most of what life contains comes to us unexpectedly after all."

That is the point of the article overall, how life changes year to year can be measured at Thanksgiving time in the U.S. It's the past, present, and future that we deal with day in and day out, taking special time to introspect about it at Thanksgiving.

that the course of life defies all expectations. looking back on the year is like letting go of expectations for the future and appreciating the past and the present. There is value in focusing on the present. Where otherwise you may consider aspects of the past irrelevant to your goals or inhibiting, looking back on the past in a neutral fashion also means reevaluating your future priorities. But none of this I actually do on thanksgiving, I just eat all the crap my mom cooks and am thankful for a good meal.
