Default Would you go to a party where you only knew one person?

And if you did, what would you do... Chat up strangers? Keep to yourself? Talk to the one person you know? Something else?

    And is this type-related?

I would not want to. I end up staring at the wall, until someone comes over to ask me whats wrong, and then I tell them I'm just bored/fine. I will chat with strangers eventually, mostly because I don't want to come across as strange or creepy lol.

As is visible, I'd spend the evening talking to the person I knew. It's difficult for me to talk to people unless I know they're interested in what I am, so obviously I don't have the best social skills. I also find chatter to be difficult, so I'll be a totally passive listener or dominating the conversation.

I probably wouldn't go to a party, actually. It depends. If it's someplace with a quiet spot to sneak off to, I could probably do it. Anyway, the only person I know who would probably go to a party likely would want to be talking to other people anyway. I could see myself tagging along and doing the passive listener thing, because I might meet interesting people that way.

    Who knows.

No, I'd never want to do that. I've done it before. It quickly turns into a borefest. I can't get to know people in those kinds of environments anyway.

It's happened to me before... and it always get me in trouble.

#4 (depends on who the person is, and whether I felt like going) > #3 (firing things up with someone I know is usually a lot more easier than trying to initiate a convo with a stranger; plus the shyness/introvert/low-social-confidence factor) > #1 (I try to do this because it's the field I lag at the most, and often think it deserves more of my attention that it actually gets)

i find parties and shit to be easier if you don't know many people. ..

if you know people kind of .. then it's like it's not as interesting, and so it's harder to be excited.

and when you are excited it can mean other people are more excited .. and

    that can be fun.

    ..

one thing i've noticed though is that sometimes if you don't know anyone, people will tell you about how /they/ don't know many people, and it can be kind of weird. anyway, as long as you keep connecting with people, then other people will be the ones that don't know you. rather than you not knowing them. and it's much easier that way.

actually i suppose i usually know more than one person when i've gone to parties .. but i just don't necessarily know them well. .. people are all interconnected ..

when I was younger, I never would have done this. But now I do it. I almost always end up knowing more than one person though. Because as mercutio said, people are interconnected.

Depends on who the person is. One of my best friends, yes I'd likely go if they invited me. Possibly if it's a relative.

Even though I know it's going to be horrible and awkward, I usually always go. I went to two parties this weekend were I only knew one person and walked away from it with another friend. It can be beneficial but also very awkward. I hate being attached to the one person you know and making them feel obligated to entertain you.

It depends on who it was and what kind of party. If its essentially a social drinking party I would say the chances are very slim. If it's a more activity based party with games and stuff I would be more likely to. It is easier for me to talk to people when we are all focused on an activity than just trying to start a conversation out of nothing.

I think going w/ 1 person is sort of ideal. First, you have that one friend so you're definitely NOT standing alone looking like a loser! Second, they can bring you in proximity to all of the other people, so you can then strike up conversations or just look open, etc.

Also, since it's clear you're "new" more people are likely to be outgoing and include you, where as if you show up w/ your whole group of friends, you prob won't talk to anyone new .

Going to a party and not knowing anyone, or meeting up w/ someone you only sorta know who may/may not blow you off I think would be rather awful.

I've done it plenty of times before and always have a lot of fun meeting new people and making friends. I guess Fe comes in handy for somthing.

Back when I was going through a bad depression things like that would stress me out. Now I don't give it a second thought.

It would depend on the circumstances, such as if they asked me if I would go because they'd feel my presence would make them more comfortable, I would, but I wouldn't if they just asked out of consideration if *I* wanted to go.

Yeh and I have done it before, perfect chance to meet new people. Whether I would keep to myself or would chat up with everyone would depend heavily on the environment and people itself. I would probably start off with chatting to everyone but if I will see they are not my kind of people I'll either keep to myself or try to chat with the person I know. However in most cases you can find people who are interesting so in most cases its not an issue.

I would definitely go to the party if it sounded like it would be fun. I wouldn't be brave enough to just introduce myself to other people, but hopefully what would happen is my friend would introduce me to his/her friends and I would strike up a conversation with one of them, so that I didn't spend the whole time just with the one friend, but I could also spend some time with friends of the friend and friends of the friends of the friend. Hope that made sense.

I would go, and how I would behave would depends on how I felt in the group. In some groups, I'm very outgoing, even if I don't know anyone, but in some groups I hold back.
