Default When somebody copies or imitates you

What is your general reaction when you notice that someone is copying or imitating you? I know it's dependent on the situation, but I just want to get a sense of your instinctual reaction.

    Is it type related?

My first instinct has always been that they're trying to compete with me, which makes me feel very negative. But then I try to step back and I think, "maybe they just think it's a good idea." Although when someone does it repeatedly, then I do think they're trying to compete, and I hate competition so I don't like that.

I think my reaction is "but I did that first" or "that was my idea..."

When I notice myself copying someone else I think I feel fraudulent or something.

Identicals, maybe? If it is repeated.

Edit: I mean identicals are maybe more likely to repeatedly copy each other.

Depends on who it is, what they do. Sometimes its sickening; sometimes it seems appropriate.
But, for a certainty, back then,
We loved so many, yet hated so much,
We hurt others and were hurt ourselves...

Yet even then, we ran like the wind,
    Whilst our laughter echoed,
    Under cerulean skies...

If they were speaking in the same way as me, then I'd feel proud. Like I've got a new student.

If they were repeating what I said exactly and taking credit for it, I'd feel upset and a bit embarrassed for them.

I'd initially get annoyed with them for coppying my idea, thereby making it less unique. If they're nice about it and compliment my idea, I won't mind. If they don't give me credit, I get mean.

it's awkward when somebody does that. i take it as a compliment, but i feel like, you shouldn't copy me, you have your own great style and ideas.

McGraw's first marriage was not publicized until a 2002 Newsweek cover story. His first wife was an ex-cheerleader and homecoming queen named Debbie Higgins McCall, who married McGraw in 1970. According to her, McGraw was domineering and would not allow her to participate in the family business. Instead, she claimed that she was confined to domestic duties, which included lifting weights to improve her bustline.

I chose not to be mad or annoyed and instead chose to investigate in this manner. I did this mainly because I am torn between what my instinctual reaction is and sentiments like "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", and I was curious why I react one way and obviously, other people react another way.

I instinctively feel like when people are copying what I'm doing, they're either doing some sort of underhanded mockery of me, making fun of me or joking around with me. And when I appear annoyed by it, it becomes like "Oh come on, lighten up, will ya?" which just angers me even more.

But I feel like I have to question this instinct because I feel blind to this idea that people might do this because they actually like me? I don't know, it just seems really weird to me.

In any case, I thought about it a bit today, and my first thought when analyzing it from a socionics point of view is that the primary IM element this centers around is , and so my initial hypothesis was that people who value would tend to welcome it and people who devalued would tend to be more skeptical or critical of it.

I'm bothered if they take credit for it; if they give me credit, or treat it as public domain (i.e. just say it and never suggest that it's anything special), I'm fine with it - maybe even glad that my idea is getting exposure.

    That's a good choice IMO.

If you're interested, I did it pour l'art. I do it all the time, to various objects. It's part of my style.

You seem kinda obsessed with them I must say (), but I really doubt you could be one.
