Default Relationship between humor, comedians, type, etc.

Inspired by the Woody Allen thread.

What comedians do you like, and what comedians do you dislike? Do you think it is type related? How are humor and type related?

I don't like Jim Carrey. I have liked a couple of movies he was in, but he was more of an actor than a comedian in those movies. I do like Adam Sandler, and have liked about every movie he's been in, but I know lots of people who can't stand him.

For me it's Jon Stewart. Great sense of irony.

We might have to work to find someone who doesn't like Jon Stewart. LOL.

I like Chris Rock. Jon Stewart is also funny. Sometimes Adam Sandler is funny, but not always. I also like the SNL shorts.

Is he a Delta comedian? I assume it's type related. I don't get seltzer in your pants humor.

    Jim Carry's comedy is bleh.

    Adam Sandler is just annoying.

Jon Stewert is watchable but not laugh out loud funny, more just mildly entertaining.

    George Carlin is a God.

I like either very subtle situational humor or smart raunchy humor (like George Carlin)

But I really like Jim Carrey. Will Steve Wright as well. No wonder I'm so internally conflicted

Oh, and Zoolander is an extremely funny film for me. Was that Sandler? He hasn't really left a strong impression on me.

When I was younger, I used to really enjoy -RoG-'s material from www.i-mockery.com. I still do, but I don't laugh *quite* as much.

Carlin also really grates on me. Also, Yakov Smirnoff is hit-and-miss for me. Similarly for Sacha Baron Cohen.

Robin Williams definitely scores highly for me, and has definitely influenced my own sense of humor.

Shaun Micallef is my favourite comedian atm. Also, I really like Rhys Darby, but I didn't enjoy Flight of the Conchords so much. I can see how the "lol, awesome" factor might make Rhys Darby funnier to me than he is.

hah not me. generally if there's a laugh track it isn't funny imo. not that the laugh track makes it unfunny, it's just humor that would be on a show that uses laugh tracks never appeals to me.

Well, to be fair, I often don't find sitcoms that funny. So I don't laugh at everything that does the work of rapidly contacting my diaphragm for me.

I don't like comedians per se, a lot of them just tell predictable jokes about minorities and stuff.

The kind of humor I like is physical humor. I like when people get hit by trucks, hit their head on things, have anvils fall down on them, trip and fall down the stairs etc. Like the three stooges, but something more modern. I'm sure most of you will make some comment about Se dual-seeking and maybe it is. *shrug*

Yeah sitcoms are never funny to me, unless it's physical, and then I crack up. I loved steve urkel's 'Did I do that?" skit in Family Matters so yeah it just has to be physical and I'll enjoy it. And when Glory got hit by that truck and wrecking ball in Buffy: Omg. It was the BEST THING EVER. I creamed my jeans.

And yes, Laugh Tracks are horrendous. But 'The Office' is lame to me. I just wish Golden Girls didn't have laugh tracks. *sigh* It like totally ruins most scenes.

I laugh at almost everything. Jim Carrey isn't that great. I like Adam Sandler, usually. Johnny Carson was great, my dad used to watch that show every night. Actually never liked Robin Williams that much. I actually really like Bill Murray! And I love Billy Crystal. Absolutely love him.

The man is everything I want to be. I'm even more of a Bill Murray fanboy than a Batman fanboy, and Gul's Batman fanboy goes above and beyond even "hero worship".

A like Bill Murray too. Caddyshack and Groundhog Day are two of my all-time favorite movies. I'd be hard pressed to think of a movie of his I don't like, but I will have to look through imdb to see.

My own tastes lean more towards the absurdist and surrealistic humor of Monty Python and Beyond the Fringe (especially Peter Cook):
