Yes; I don't talk about it often, because I can't explain it very clearly, but sometimes I'll mention it to someone who likes me enough that they won't start ignoring me if I become incoherent.

Not really. I might talk about it a little with my brother when he asks questions about random socionics stuff that gets thrown around during our dnd sessions. Or when I'm drunk and I'm with good friends, like my ESFj friend (formerly known as ESFp friend) where I'll bring it up in reference to him talking about types of people. We were at a bar once and he asked what I thought about him theorywise and I told him he'd really like nerdy girls and he was like "I TOTALLY DO, MAN!"

Very rarely, only if a really complicated social/emotional situation that can be explained via socionics develops in a group of people I know, and the person I'm talking with is sufficiently open-minded not to outright reject what I'm explaning.

no. i don't want anybody to secretly hate me more than they already do. plus i live in wyoming-- discussing someone's ego with them is grounds for a asskicking! I find I get pretty bored at bars when my friends are hitting on people, etc., so I'll often figure out the types of random strangers, who get all enthralled as they like the attention and feel it's some sorta magic trick. I'll describe functions w/o using the actually names for things and they'll be like OMG how did you know?
Also, it's a good way to deal w/ guys I don't like (as long as they're a less compatible type w/ me). I can give them a quick overview of why our types would clash and then recommend their dual to them.
I also tell my friends who their duals are (without using any of the terminology).
Just at a dive bar last night I was telling an ESFj friend about INTjs, and it was pretty much the type of guy she looks for. I kept making comments to my INTJ friend about various couples who were duals/good matches (she's super used to me doing this by now -- she used to have me figure out the types of guys she was dating, etc. She's now w/ her dual! yay)
The key is to not make it sound nerdy. If you break out the functions and stuff, that would be weird. But if you put it in normal language, you can really use it at any time.
Well, maybe not any time -- I hear you on that Heath! I think I would keep quiet there as well! But in NYC people are pretty open minded thank god.
Hi! I'm an ENFP. :-)
I talk to myself about socionics, does that count?

I've talked about it with people who I know won't make fun of me, in front of me. I don't think any of the few people have made fun of me behind my back.
THE EIGHT RULES OF SOCIONICS
1 - Don't talk about Socionics
2 - You DO NOT talk about Socionics
3 - When someone says "I know my type", or goes limp, even if he's just faking it, the typing is over
4 - Only two guys to a typing
5 - One typing at a time
6 - They type without MBTI or Enneagram
7 - The typings go on as long as they have to (for instance, Joy's typing began in 2005 and is still ongoing. Some say it actually began in the Jurassic age)
8 - If this is your first night at the forum, you have to be typed

slater, that was hilarious.
I don't talk about it cause people think it's MBTI and I just don't have the patience to go into detail about the differences. I have one friend irl who sort of knows the theory but I think she's skeptical anyway so I rarely mention it. My husband kinda knows too but doesn't put much stock in it. I do, however, talk about it in regular language sometimes and there are some people who sort of get it instinctively, which is cool. My SLE friend for instance, seems to know exactly what I'm talking about.

A little bit. It's just too convoluted to explain, so I don't bother most of the time.

Certainly I talk about it! I am the Aaron to a Moses. Last year, I was collecting people's types. I now have over a hundred. I mention things like black circle, white L, and black L in normal conversation. It's like using big words...some people understand it, and those that don't just think I'm smart.
Only with my husband.

Never. They might find this forum.
"How could we forget those ancient myths that stand at the beginning of all races, the myths about dragons that at the last moment are transformed into princesses? Perhaps all the dragons in our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us act, just once, with beauty and courage. Perhaps everything that frightens us is, in its deepest essence, something helpless that wants our love."
-- Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet
! Haha, whoa identicalness, I had just thought that ^^.
& No I don't! It would take too long to explain it to people, people would misunderstand, become type prejudice, argue about their type, think i'm crazy. Oh, wait, I did tell my sister, who's really into it and always asks me about her dual - but that's different, you can talk about random geeky things with them. I also mentioned it to my IEI friend, but I haven't gone in to it further because I realize this would be a bad idea and he never really got it or was too interested in it anyways. But I do think that's kind of cool Abbie, though I would never do it myself.
(Also a while ago I used to worry that if I told my dual, they'd leave me to find a 'better one'. Rofl. )

IEI, sp/sx 4w3.
Yes, with a lot of different people. Family, friends, business acquaintances...
I try not to unless people express an interest in it, which isn't that uncommon since my two friends who are into socionics as much as I am bring it up in public all the time and usually I can explain it the best.
If I'm going to bring it up on my own initiative it is usually with activity partners since I can usually talk to them about anything.
Most often though Beta NFs are the only ones who I talk to it about who don't already know something about socionics. That's mostly because beta NFs in general, I find, Tend to have that "You don't know me as well as you think you do" Thing going on, to which I usually chuckle and respond "You'd be surprised"

i talk about it to anyone who'll listen. i'm starting to bug myself now though, i'm too obsessed! there's just so much information to take in and analyse, it's never ending.
a friend of mine (isfp) and her boyfriend (entp) were having problems ( she found him lurking on a dating site and kicked him out) they have a kid together so i emailed all the info about what an isfp-sei and entp- ile is. i emailed her the description of this dual pair also.
i called in to see her last week and her boyfriend drove me home. he said " i heard about all that weirdo voodoo shit you showed my girlfriend" i was like it isn't voodoo shit, it's real. i asked him if the description fitted him and he said he didn't even read it but that he thought it helped his case in winning her back. we had a 20 minute conversation where i was able to give him concrete reasons as to why she would be good for him and he agreed. my dad is entp and my mam is isfj so it was easy for me to see how an isfp would make a better match. ok he probably would have come to the realisation himself but probably not as quickly. thanks to socionics their beautiful baby daughter has more of a chance of having mammy and daddy stay together.
made all my weirdo over analysis worth it seeing how it can be applied to the real world like that. i was in enfp meddling heaven.
since there are people of all types here you would think it wouldn't be as taboo as it seems. anything new is taboo i guess. people here are the same people IRL. most people just don't know any better i suppose, so they poopoo it just to be safe.
i have one enfj friend who thinks it's just like astrology eventhough i managed to type her correctly before she took the test. it wasn't just luck that i chose correctly out of 16 possibilities. she told me one night to shut up about it, that it was all a whole lot of nonsense. i have another enfj friend who i just introduced to it and she can't get enough. she let me ramble on for 3 hours about it the other night. it was great. i love her for it.
sorry if the letters enfj offend you, i just couldn't be bothered looking up what they are in socionics terms. it's harder to remember them for some reason.
everyone thinks i'm mad anyway so there's no fear of me damaging my reputation. i have done so much observing in the last few years that i am convinced there is definately something to all of this. i have backed down from outlandish claims i have made in the past but i will never back down on this cos it all just makes too much sense. i'm kind of semi dualised now and with my logic being a bit stronger than it used to be i feel alot more confident in the fact that i am right. and seeing how my predictions were correct for my isfp friend and her boyfriend have only strengthened my resolve. i think when you realise that the reason people poopoo your claims is more to do with them not wanting to look foolish than it is to do with logic then all there is left for you to do is go forth and educate without fear of ridicule.
what kind of religious fanatic were you?
