Someone in an quadra, of course; such strange behavior is un-. Now, given that people put their cars into reverse all the time, it would probably take somewhat strong to figure out that there's something special about putting it into reverse while moving - and a Tactical type (inert ) will have more difficulty resisting the urge to continue the train of thought. Finally, an ILE is more likely than an IEE to be thinking about the car in the first place. An ILE, being Intuitive, may not be the most likely type to actually grab the shifter... but still, that seems to me the most likely type.

SEI is a close second, due to such things as inert-strong and lack of to inhibit the risky action, but an SEI would be far less likely to think of it in the first place. Perhaps an ILE and an SEI... "What happens if you put the car in reverse right now?" "Hey, let's try it!"

I could also see an SLI, knowing full well what's going to happen, demonstrating it to his curious friend rather than trying to explain.

I might do it by mistake but it wouldn't occur to me to do it on purpose.

I've thought about the reverse of the freeway thing often, but I'd never try it.

The first time you try to go rapidly from forward into reverse, you figure it out. So, I'd guess at least half of 16 year old newly minted drivers testing out what their cars can and can't do would be doing this off-highway (seeing how quickly they can back into a driveway and other common stuff.) The other half might either just wonder what it'd do, or actually try it on the highway, and find out.

...the human race will disappear. Other races will appear and disappear in turn. The sky will become icy and void, pierced by the feeble light of half-dead stars. Which will also disappear. Everything will disappear. And what human beings do is just as free of sense as the free motion of elementary particles. Good, evil, morality, feelings? Pure 'Victorian fictions'.

I've done that too. So many times that I am no longer in charge of keeping gas in my own car.

I ran out of gas constantly when I had a car... the worst was when I was late for work, first car at a stoplight in the inside lane durring rush hour, I had put in 50c of gas to get me to work... it wasn't enough . thankfully some guy helped me push my car off the road and gave me $20 to fill it up.

lol one time while fucking around with a friend we had to put push the car up to the gas station to put in 16 cents of gas so we could try to make it the other mile home to get more money.

I'm way worse with oil and radiator water... I've killed cars by running out both.

wait, so nothing happens when you put in reverse on the highway? I'm sorta disappointed by that.

I never would have considered it. If I did consider it, I'd prefer someone else try it out, when I wasn't in the car .

It has happened to me going about 30 mph down my street.
The guilty type? One of the following ile, eie,??? seems to be similar to a male version of sarah silverman.
How? He was playing with the shifter on the automatic car going from 1-2-N and then suddenly was like what if i put it in reverse? He said after he didn't think the car would let him do it. Nope...EEEEEEECHHHHHHHH car wheels lock up and we come to a halt and the car shuts off. Fortunately once i shifted the car back into park it started back up. I almost kicked his ass but it appeared there was no permanent damage.

Haha, I've actually almost done that twice or so! And I've reminded myself to refill it several times before I actually do it and it's below a quarter tank.

EDIT: Let's just say that I'm thankful for a vigilant ESTj mom who reminds me to do these things quite often -- and in other cases, an ISTp dad who doesn't mind fixing vehicles.

By far the most likely type to actually do would be an SLE, but you'd have to make it a challenge: "I bet you won't put the car in reverse right now."
And then of course they'd do it to prove that they can and will.

Doesn't that just make them the easiest type to convince to do it? Not the most likely type to do it on their own...

In high school I knew a guy who would get on a long stretch of usually-empty road, drive extremely fast down, then pull the emergency break to make the car spin. He was probably Beta ST.

Despite never having actually tried doing this, I had already inferred the fact that nothing serious would happen from the fact that there aren't any elaborate safety measures around the reverse gear of a car. If there really was a "engine explosion" kind of reaction, the reverse gear controls wouldn't be put in a place where one could easily engage them accidentally. Or there would be regular reports of accidents happening in this way.
