pronouncing functions phoenetically

I noticed in some video that someone would refer to as the two letters 'N' and 'I'. I realize it was probably for clarity in the video but it struck me as odd anyway. When I read "Ni" or see , in my head I read it as 'nigh' - So do some types read the 2 letters and other types read it the way it would sound if it were a regular word?

Brit's and usaians have different opinions about pronouncing the names of the letters "i" and "e".
Guess types who know about and want to avoid that minor nuisance would avoid the spelling approach.

Not sure how type related it is, but this somehow relates to people who use slang, like if someone says lawl, I could imagine him saying breh. The only problem with me saying this is that the differences in slang could be type related. I can see how someone would do it because it's phonetic, and I can see how someone else of a different type would do it just because it's a derivation, or it sounds cool, etc. Si vs Fe? Si being of phonetic, just a guess.
