Favourite characters in Homestuck, and why:

ISFx - pretty much my ideal self. What she does and says is like watching someone play out things I'd never do myself, which is awesome. Plus, she's adorable

ISFp - same sense of humor as me, deals with the plot the same way as me, but is generally more awesome than me. So I can live out the events of the story through him and laugh at his masterful pranking and deadpannery.

ENFj - same reason I like Alexei. She's ridiculous.

ESFp + (ESTj?) - Mrs Coulter effect. They're both really interesting and well-characterised.

ENTp - just because she's ENTp. I never really liked her that much or really found her that interesting though

So, one count of "just because", one count of "makes me laugh" (and we always like people who make us feel positive emotions), two counts of "I can identify with them", two counts of "a lot of personality material there to engage with".

Don't a lot of social relationships also have elements of the parasocial?

Especially with the advent of "facebook stalking."

That's how most of my relationships with people work

I think the idea of a parasocial relationship is that it's a one-sided relationship, albeit one with the emotional trappings of an "actual" relationship.

Why do people care about characters in books, movies, or on TV? Because there's some sort of emotional attachment they form, like they're "friends" with the character.

Sometimes I just want drag people on this forum out of their houses and force them to meet people and be out of their comfort zone.

Do it! But do it punisher style - break a window or make them cry!

I've been trying to do that to myself lately.
