    Default Crimson Tide

Watched this movie for the billionth time on tv today. Gene hackmans character seems LSE, he drips of the "covert nervousness" and tried to pressure everyone shuting down Fe. "During a conversation he pressures his interlocutor, even tries to intimidate him, but if people do not fear him, he becomes courteous and polite. Fury is his line of defense in a situation of emergency in which he feels otherwise helpless." He can't seem to stand Washingtons cool demeanor, he punches Denzel in the face and when Denzel doesn't back down he suddenly puts on an air of politeness and starts small talk while they wait for the EAM.He does this several times in the movie.
His Ni POLR is most evident when he demands he follow the rational and dutiful course of action and launch his nukes; he doesn't forsee the drastic consequences of nuclear holocaust, that there are other boats out there too. He won't even wait to launch his nukes in the face of a possible stand down order from the EAM, even though he has time before the Russians would have launch capability. He tries to operates his crew at the peak of effieciency, giving them a bunch of crap about honor and duty.
"Initiative is habitual to him; he is decisive, likes to be the center of attention. He defends his ideas with guts and fervor. In front of his superiors he is not shy, even becomes aggressive. He knows that business only then goes perfectly if the necessary tempo is set from the very beginning. He does not tolerate procrastination, is an ardent struggler for quality and thoroughness in all work. A good army officer. Like Thomas Edison, a representative of this type is capable of working 19.5 hours a day."
Gene Hackman may be a real life estj too, has the look, acts similar in other roles like Enemy of the State. I can't see him being estp, not in this movie...estp;4. Dispassionate. He seldom gives in to fear, hatred, and other negative emotions, rarely gets surprised and rarely envies. The more dangerous the situation, the more self-disciplined and resolute he becomes. I think a comparable role for an estp is Sean Connery in The Hunt for Red October, though connery may or may not be estp.

My opinion: fictional characters are difficult to type because they don't have a "real" personality (it sounds silly!)

Hunter: Energetic, driven, perfectionist, prone to solve conflict by peaceful means, a bit of a rebel, his wife is clearly ISFp... ENTp

Ramsey: strong, ironic sense of humour (beta>delta). Dutiful. Pragmatic. Not eager to procrastinate. ISTj

Thus, Hunter supervises Ramsey in spite of the latter is the Captain of the ship. The movie is all about vs Ramsey has his own group of followers and Hunter creates one to challenge them. It looks polr.
When the threat is over, Ramsey "acknowledges" Hunter was right, he gives in to his supervisor.

    Feedback?

Possibly. Whats the Ne specifically? Hunter wants to avoid a nuclear holocaust (potential Ne or Ni?)

I do see Ramsay as istj>estj now.
Hunter is intuitive i agree, there's even jokes made in the movie about his bookish training.

Hunter didn't actually create a mutiny either, technically Ramsay did. He tried to replace the Xo. Ramsay was too confident is his own power and judgement and the chain of command, and ended up breaking the chain of command actually. There was no room for mechanical error when the EAM went down.

Isn't the entire point of the Xo to double check the captains judgement? Ramsay assumes all this guesswork has already been done by his superiors who sent the message....but then again another message was cut off.
As for Fi polr (the intuitive take)....thats a pretty ludicrous example...considering Hunter is trying to prevent mutual assured destruction.
