    Default Learning foreign languages

Whereas in a few Northern European Nations most people strive for learning several languages, in some countries, such as Spain,Italy or Great Britain only a few "geeks" do it. What is the type of these geeks?

IMO, Alpha quadra members are much more interested in foreign languages than other quadras...

I think it's a culture/interest thing. I love languages and I'm a Delta, currently learning Japanese. I was thinking of trying for some sort of Languages degree, but ended up going another manner. I think the more interested in international travel someone is, or, the more multicultural their surroundings are, the more likely they are to learn different languages, as there will eventually be some practical use for it.

    I don't think it's type related.

But, on a random aside, all the INTps I know are multilingual by choice.

I'm nordic, so I'm exluded from your subject group. But I know 3 languages, and random words and sentences in several other, mostly swear words though.
...the human race will disappear. Other races will appear and disappear in turn. The sky will become icy and void, pierced by the feeble light of half-dead stars. Which will also disappear. Everything will disappear. And what human beings do is just as free of sense as the free motion of elementary particles. Good, evil, morality, feelings? Pure 'Victorian fictions'.

I've little interest in learning Spanish (it'd be cool to know it, but I'm not willing to put forth the effort), but I seem to make up for it with half a dozen machine languages and a plethora of nonsense words. Hayospaludin!

I suppose you can put me on whichever side of the divide supports your theory. ~

If Brilliand was any character in the world, his character would be Professor John Frink from the Simpsons.

I don't think it's type related. As far as "sampling" goes, I know Italian, English, and German (in decreasing order of fluency). I can also understand French and Spanish and Portuguese, but cannot really speak them.

I know Lithuanian, English and Russian. Currently I'm learning Spanish just for my own pleasure.

I loooove learning languages. I pick them up easily (although I'm getting older, so it's probably not the case any more). But I've also forgotten a great deal since I have no way to practice what I learned.
