Thread: Breast implants

    Default Breast implants

Are women of some types more/less likely to get boob jobs than women of other types? [I'm talking here about "normal" people, not women in Hollywood or porn.]

I only know two people who have implants [that I know of, at least]: an ENFj and an ENTj - both Si PoLR, which made me wonder if it could be type-related... what do you think?

I think this is a very important question. Research is in order.

My immediate inclination is to say that it's probably not type related, but I have no way of knowing this. I can only speculate as to why someone would get breast implants (insecurity, conforming to a stereotypical image, peer pressure, low self esteem or ... just wanting them really damn bad) and I don't think that only of those reasons can be tied down to type.

What reasons are you referring to? Can you be more specific?

lol. your avatar actually looks like you.

i really don't have specific IRL examples.
just, hmmm.... For example, SEEs seem to be into their appearance for the statement effect that it has on other, whereas I could care less. I would get a boob job if I thought it would make me feel better about myself.

I agree with you in large part, and I don't think that whether a woman does or doesn't get implants is necessarily tied to type. What I was wondering about is different types having different reasons for why they want or wouldn't get implants, and also whether some types might be overall more or less inclined to get them.

That's been my experience as well. I know an ESTj and an ESFj, for example, who both say they wouldn't get them because they don't like the idea of feeling like there was something foreign inside their bodies. In contrast, the ENTj and ENFj both got implants to go along with their constructed images of themselves as powerful and beautiful [obviously subjective] - in their minds the boobs complete the image, and niether of them cares about the discomfort they sometimes cause. My question is whether this relates to Si vs. Se, or is just related to the individuals involved.

lol, these matching avatars crack me up. I couldn't resist mine.

Ugh, I wish I knew more people who have had breast implants so that I could compare/contrast, but I only know of one girl and besides seeming really Fe to me, I have no idea what her type is.

Okay, that makes sense. Obviously I have no idea why other people go about doing these things, but personally I would never get breast implants. It seems morally wrong somehow to alter a perfectly normal appearance. I wouldn't like myself if I did it, and I wouldn't want other people to judge me for doing it, lol.

Yes. Exactly. One of the Se girls I know did it because she wanted her body to have a more proportioned look. But she was FINE beforehand. It was a very "this is the image that I have of myself in my mind, so this is what I'll become" thing.
I'm more along the lines of what the ESxJs you know say. I would feel really uncomfortable permanently having something foreign in my body. I once felt "broken" just having stitches on my hand. And every time i see advertisements for birth control devices that you stick in your body- like IUDs or those rods that go under your skin- I get all queasy.
The only cosmetic surgery that "makes sense" to me is stuff that sort of gets you back to what you looked like at a previous point in time. For example, I don't consider anti-aging procedures to be unnatural. And, if I had children and had excess stomach fat/skin (which I almost definitely would because I'm built like a 12 year old boy) I would see nothing wrong with hacking that off.
Also, if something is a major impediment- e.g., I know a girl who had a HUGE nose and eventually got that done- then I think that's cool too.
And I don't judge other types of cosmetic surgery. I just, personally, wouldn't be able to rationalize them to myself.

good guess, but america is also soooo not Si valuing. maybe it's the whole, plastic bowling balls image i get in my head when i see the word "breast implants," but that sort of operation seems to be intended to increase one's sex appeal, even if the reverse is the result.

Well, I would never get breast implants and this wasn't a particularly hard decision. Honestly, the thought never crossed my mind. They look so horrific anyway.

Admittedly though, if I though it was necessary to improve my image AND I bought into the whole 'big-boobs thing' (as a culturally recognised and necessary component of beauty/female-worth), maybe I would. But that precondition isn't there for me. It's not part of what I find important in defining beauty, in fact, where they are too large, I think they're actually ugly, so there is no compulsion there.

The 'this is my BODY and I will not alter it or strap unnatural objects to it because that is alien!' thing isn't my issue at all, and maybe what the thread is getting at.

    Yeah, this.

I don't like the idea of cosmetic surgery in any form, actually. I think my personal attitude is more that if you're fat, well, exercise or eat less or just do something to fix it. But your body is what you get, and you work with it, not on it. I know a lot of girls who have had work done, mainly on their faces, and ok, if they can afford it and it makes it worthwhile getting up in the morning for them, whatever. I don't see the point of it, I think it diminishes something within them, but I don't see that choice as reflecting on their inherent worth as an individual.

In terms of breast implants specifically, I think there's enough of a cultural bias against it here which is probably quite different from the US. I think a lot of the beauty ideal (within mainstream culture, and god, I know I'm skating on all kinds of dangerous ground here, but hey) is of the natural-beauty-surfer-chick, and when you're lying on a beach in a bikini, well, it is painfully obvious what is real and what is fake. And fakeness, artificiality, is seen as almost 'un-Australian' and pandering to an Americanised beauty aesthetic. I mean, I'm also aware that I can agree with this view because my cup size has never been an issue for me - but for girls who are unhappy with theirs, I'm sure they'll have a very different perspective.

So it is not so much the weirdness of having bits put into your body, but more that I - for whatever constructed social reasons - think it is stupid. I'm not saying this is a uniform, rational decision, because I have no problems with make up and high heels and uncomfortable clothes.

My ESFJ roomie has some absolutely beautiful fake breasts. Had i not known her before, I'd think... Wow. but now it's just like...eh, they're nice... even if not real. To me, a really nasty boob job is easy to tell... so those that pay the right amount and get their money's worth.. yeah, they're nice.

Interesting. My EIE mother has breast implants. It's gross. But that's probably because she's my mother. I'm just glad she did it while I was an adult and not when I was younger.

Anyway, someone must pay for them. Whoever willing to buy a pair needs a rich husband (for instance, gamma NT). If the patient is lesbian, she will need a rich sponsor too. But gamma NTs are robots who don't enjoy sex, so their wives will enjoy their new toy with another user...so gamma NTs commit suicide when paying for that...
